On the day I was born, my dad went to the hospital gift shop and bought a chritmas ornament for me (by bday is 11/14) It was a pink glass ball with bunny ears and face glued on it it - I believe it was handmade by the "pink ladies" who worked there. As I grew up every year that was my special ornament to put on the tree. When I married and got my own home/tree, he gave it to me for my tree. I loved that ornament so much. One year when my dd was 6, she grabbed it out of the box and tried to hang it on the tree. Unfortunately she was a little clutzy and broke it. I was so upset - cried for hours over it. The point of my story is, it doesn't matter WHAT you give your daughter - even if it is a $1.00 ornament - it will be special to her as she gets older. When my dd was born, we got her a little Christmas table to put out every year for Santa's cookies and milk. She is 10 now and loves to put it out every year. One the bottom of the table we wrote "For your Very First Christmas. We love you Mommy and Daddy" I also dated it. She will take it when she gets her own place years from now. I guess I just wanted to follow the tradition of my father - but not with something so delicate as a glass ornament. Hope this helps a bit.
