We just got back from Disney about 2 weeks ago :guilty: and I would like to plan another trip for sometime next year(was going to wait until June 2008 but don't think me or my kids can wait that long!). My original plan was to go at the beginning of August before our school year starts. The rates starting August 5th next year are now value season. BUT...I have been reading all the posts about the MNSSHP and thought that might be fun for the kids. We have never been in October and also hear the weather is pretty nice then. The only thing with that is their fall break is the last week in October(25th and 26th). So, if we wanted to make our trip longer than the 4 day weekend, I would have to pull them out of school. This is also regular season, so rates for hotels are a little higher priced than value season. My DS9 will be starting 5th grade(1st year in intermediate school), and my DS5 will be starting 2nd grade. What should I do on this one? How are the crowds in August vs. October? Also, is October still warm enough to swim(my DS9 wants to know this one!). How does the heat compare? I have lots of questions, so hopefully someone can help me decide!!! :sunny:

If you can do October, I would definitely do it then.

We had always taken our trips in October, but since my dd is too old to take out of school (9th grade), we have to go during school breaks. Our upcoming trip is in August for 2 weeks!

The weather in October is great in the 80s and the crowds are minimal (Columbus Day weekend picks up though). We have been to MNSSHP a couple of times and LOVED it, if you haven't been, you should go.

Have fun planning!

October. Better weather, shorter lines, smaller crowds, MNSSHP, smaller crowds, heated pools, better rates. Did I say smaller crowds?

We always had good luck that last week of August. The crowds were lower, the hours/daylight long, the rates cheap. It was hot, however.

October was def. warm enough to swim when we've been. We had huge crowds 2 years ago. Might have been a fluke, of course!

October is far, far, far, far better weather wise. The end of August will be brutally hot.

We went in august 2003 and it was very crowded, incredibly hot and when it rained, it drenched us to our undies and it rained every single day. We have to go during school breaks because my husband is a teacher. If we could go anythime, I would definitely take the kids out of school and would go in October.

Thanks for all your tips! I love these boards. I really am leaning towards October and the MNSSHP. My kids would probably love that, and so would I! I don't know if my husband will be as excited to go to Disney again, but if he is not into it, I will take the kids by myself!!!! :cool1:

Oct, Oct, Oct. It is far better to go in Oct than Aug, the weather is better, the crowds are smaller, and the price may be a little higher, but trust me its worth it over the heat. As far as the kids go I say take them out of school b/c it will be a better trip and whats more important than family.

You are absolutely right! Family is much more important than missing a few days of school. I am sure I missed a few as a child, but I don't remember that part of my childhood. The only thing I remember is taking trips with the family, especially the ones to Disney! Thanks for the comments!! :sunny:
