Need advice about installing DVD Rom..

Stupid, non-computer savvy me.
I purchased a new Dell for my son.
Before I purchased I spoke to a Dell rep online.
I told him I needed to be able to use DVD roms for my son's schooling.

The computer I got only has a CD-RW. Stupid me didn't know you couldn't play DVD roms until today when my son was given some learning dvd roms from the school.

What would be the best way for me to get a DVD rom?

I saw on Newegg that they sell them. Is there a good online company to deal with?

How do I figure out which one is compatible with my Dell Dimension 3300 computer?

Can I install it myself?

I hope someone who is good with computers can help me.

go to your local computer store. Compusa, bestbuy ( i hate them) or local small store. Ask them how much to install/purchase. Or if you know someone who can install for you. they arent that tough.

Newegg is a good site to deal with online. The shipping is usually early or right on time also. As for being able to install it yourself, the thing about it is that if you are looking to simply replace the CD burner drive that's there, you can disconnect one of them and plug those same wires into the new one. What's important though is that the computer is unplugged when you do this because there have been issues when it's still plugged in even if it is off. Not that difficult...but you should at least open the case up and see if you think you could switch the parts out.

Also, if you can, I recommend avoiding Best Buy. I can't stand them either.

You can buy in usb external DVD-ROM and not have to pop open the computer case. The Circuit City and Best Buys can install a internal DVD-ROM. The computer DVD-ROM should be easy to install if have a open port to DVD-ROM in.

If you had told them you needed a DVD and did not get it, I think maybe a call back to customer service might be in order to see how they might correct it. You were depending on them to assist you in your purchase. Just a thought.
