Hi. I wear glasses, but I don't want transitions.
I wanted to wear clip ons or something I can put over my sunglasses and take off when I'm inside.

I used to have prescription glasses with those magnetic clip ons, but my eye doctor only carries one style now, and they don't look good on me.

I've tried looking in my local dept stores for sunglasses I can wear over my prescription glasses, but I can only find those huge ones that are on the tv commercials (HD something, I think) and they are huge on me.

Any advice on where to look for sunglasses?
Thanks.

Where do you live? any walmart or kmart has sunglasses that will go over your glasses.

they should have different sizes for different frame types.

You could find a shop that carries more than one style of glasses with clip-ons. You're not required to fill your prescription where you get your eyes examined, are you?

I own clip-ons but I don't always remember to carry them with me. When I have gotten new glasses and wanted to replace the frames as well as lenses sometimes the frame style is no longer available and then the old clip-ons won't work. I have wraparound sunglasses that fit over my prescription glasses that work well for me. I sometimes put them on top of my head to hold my hair back. I bought the first pair about 25 years ago, from my optician, and they're still in good condition. I have more than one pair now so I can keep them in several places so a pair theoretically will always be available.

I have the kind that snap right on to your glasses, got mine at Sams Club and you can also find them at Walmart in the optical center. Cost around $20 and they have all kinds of size/shapes so you can find the right size for your glasses.

Yep, found much better pairs at WalMart and really like the colors they have. They are easy to snap on and for $15 it saves me alot of money! More money for the Disney trip!:yay:

DS6 wears glasses, and was using Atropine to keep one eye out of focus, which made him super sensitive to sunlight. We got him a pair of clip on sunglasses to wear over his prescription glasses right at wal mart. I don't remember the exact price, but I'm pretty sure they were less than 20.

Repeating the Walmart suggestion! Over in the regular sunglass section, they've got a large selection of clip ons that are designed to fit pretty much any frame shape and size. I think they were all between $10 - $20. The kind I got had some kind of numbering system that was supposed to help you out - if I remember correctly one number referred to the shape and the other to the size. It took a little bit of trial and error, but I love the ones I got!

Yay!! Thanks for the suggestions.
I will definitely try the Wal Mart vision center. I looked in with the regular sunglasses near the jewelry dept, but they didn't have anything.

I feel stupid for not checking the Wal Mart vision center. I'm definitely hitting that store tomorrow or Saturday. Yay!! I hope I find some!!!

Thanks again. I really mean it. :)

When I had some, I got them at the Walmart vision center. They're easy to lose, though, I think I went through 3 of them before I got new frames with transistions (which I don't like).

Walmart Walmart Walmart!!!
I also bought extra expensive glasses that had magnetic sunglasses... it was great except for when I would lose them for a week at a time, or until I broke them and didn't want to pay the $80 to replace them!

Someone told me about Walmart.... $10-$15 a piece. If I break them (and a sweet little toddler did break one of mine when I wasn't watching them well) I'm really not that concerned about it.

You're gonna love it!

Saw several mention Transitions lens and not likeing them- what was it you did not like? I am getting new glasses very soon and wanted to get the T lens so I would not have to hunt down sunglasses anymore. Thanks for your comments

I had them and won't get them again. In photos with flash, they are always tinted and look like I am wearing sunglasses indoors. Also, once they have been exposed to extreme bright sunlight for a long time, they never seemed to be really clear again. There always was a faint tint to them.
Hubby worked outside and his were always gray, even after being inside all evening. Since he retired, his new transition lenses work the same as mine did - darken up in flash pictures or in a room with bright lights and a faint tint is always on them. But he loves them for driving.
I go for the frames that have the magnetic clip on. I have about three pairs and if I can't find a good frame, I will just have new lenses put in one of old ones if needed.

Go to Wally World in the sporting goods department and get the huge clip-on set you want. Go to the craft department in Wally world and get an x-acto knife. When you get home trace the outline of your glasses on the plastic clip-on lens and trim it with the x-acto and wa-la custom made clip-ons.

You can find lots of clip on sunglasses in many different styles, shapes and color online. Even swanky designer brands! Try sites that sell prescription glasses and search in the sunglasses section. There should be a "clip on" subcategory.
