Need A Tip For Riding Avatar Attraction

In 2019, I rode Flight of Passage for the first time. That is the only time I did it. I almost had a panic attack. I am claustrophobic. When those things from the seat clamped into my legs and that thing pushed into my back, I did not like it. But when the seat started "breathing" and the movement would push on my legs from both sides, I started freaking out. My husband knows I am claustrophobic and so he reached over and held my hand, but I will tell you I had tears in my eyes and I was on the verge of just bawling. Had it not been for my husband I would have. I thought the attraction was great. The spacing between the seats was fine. I was in the seat by the far right wall. But, the "breathing" and pushing on my legs is what sent me over the edge. I understand all of the "clamping in" is most likely for my safety, but I have no idea how much movement the seats actually have, compared to screen movement. So, I do not want to make the ride unsafe, but is there a way to not have those things push in on your legs so much? Like can you push against them just a little when seated so they are not so tight? Again, not trying to be unsafe, I just do not know how much the seat actually moves. Though it is not as bad to most as it was to me, I felt like I may as well have been wearing compression socks and wrapped with a boa constrictor.

I had the same issue though I didn’t have a panic attack. I do push against them a little when they first come down. The issue is, a CM may walk by and push them down more. I am ok once the ride moves and I don’t notice being clamped in any more, but if we are seated, clamped and then there is a delay in the ride, I get panicky. There are a few rides I can’t do anymore because of my claustrophobia- Millenium Falcon and Mission Space to name a few. But I have ridden FOP feeling I had enough space to move if need be and was still safe on the ride.

Agree with PP, even if you give yourself a bit of room the push from the CM might easily shove you back “in place”. A couple times I tried to give myself a little more breathing room but the CMs come by with such momentum in the seat checks I got pushed forward even when I tried to hold my position.

Fwiw- last time I road it we had a decent delay, 5-10 mins before the ride even started but we were already clamped in place.

Same thing happened to me the last time I rode it, completely out of nowhere and I've ridden it many times. I've never had anything like that happen before. I do not like enclosed small enclosed spaces (think MRI tube), but have not been bothered by elevators, planes, etc. I won't ride it again. As others have said, if the leg and back restraints are not secure/tight, the CM will adjust them. I'm looking forward to Tron opening and I'm hoping because Tron is more of a roller coaster ride with quick movement, I won't be freaked out by it.

I am okay with a CT, MRI, plane, Smuggler's Run, elevators (unless they are overly packed), etc. It was that "breathing" business, the constant compression. Sent me over the edge. I think I may just have to pass on it each time.

I'm not sure about legs, but I have back issues - and that seat comes up on your back hard. I put my hand/arm behind my back so it hits that instead of my back. Creates slight leeway during the ride, but I don't notice it - not NEAR as much as when the arm caught me good.
