I agree. Option 2. I can't see how the 65 (one time use) points are worth $1800.

Yeah, I guess I see now that the extra 65 DD pts. does not match in value the $1800 savings you get by going with Offer 2. Looking at a Points Chart for AKV for the value Season (Adventure), 65 pts. is 7 points below the cost for a full week in a Value Accomodation.

For comparison, assuming a non-DVC person paid $200/nt out of pocket (arbitrary estimate) for a 1 week stay at AKL in same room type, they'd only be paying $1400, and there's a good chance it could be even less than that $200/nt estimate (we've paid under $200/nt to stay at AKL in the past).

Thanks for the input folks.

Jim

I wouldn't even bother trying to compare with cash rates. DVC is designed to save us money in the long run compared to cash prices.

As others said, if you needed to rent points because you didn't have enough, $12 each is about the going rate. You could rent 65 pts for under $800. That makes the cash discount much more attractive, IMO.

Good luck.

Well no matter how you look at the prices, do whats right for you and your family. When I received the great benefits in September of 200 points, 200 developer points to match, the cash discount of either the $8 or $10 depending on the resort. We also received the 2 Annual Passes and a litho. Even though my deal is much better, you never know if it will return. I know some received double developer points.

Had I have waited, I would have received less. Thats why I say, do whats best for you and your family. JW

Anyone needing a current DVC owners name for a referral can use mine. Our state (Wisconsin) is allowed to receive referral incentives. email or PM me for my name, city, state and guides name, if you need it. We have been members since 1999 at BWV.

I just found this 'incentive' and am wondering if any current DVC member would offer themselves as a referal??

New Promotional Incentive - Bonus with Member Referral! (UPDATED)

Today DVC unveiled a new discount program for those buying into the program for the first time. The previous incentives of $8 off at Disney's Animal Kingdom Villas and $10 off at Saratoga Springs Resort are still in place. However, those who are able to provide the name of an existing DVC member will get a little bit extra.

This is the third year in which DVC has offered a similar referral-driven rewards program during the fall months. In 2005 and 2006, buyers would receive an increased cash discount when supplying the name of a referring member. This year's promotion is slightly different, but still quite beneficial to new buyers.

New customers who are referred by an existing DVC member will receive a one-time grant of 160 Developer's Points with an initial purchase of 225 points or more. 160 points is sufficient to reserve a One Bedroom Villa for six consecutive nights (Sunday to Saturday) at most resorts, during most seasons. Effectively one could view this addedl bonus as granting new members a free vacation just for providing the name of a current member as a referral.

The Developer's Points are virtually identical to standard DVC points with just a few minor differences. Reservations can only be made 7 months from the check-out date using Developer's Points. The points must be used within 12 months of their issuance and they cannot be banked.

Sure....why not?? Send me a pm if you are looking for a referral or if you were just inquiring....not sure!

Sent you a PM!

Also, I believe there is a referral thread already running...so don't be surprised if the moderators move this.

Here is our Referral Thread where we are keeping them all in one place. Thank you.

Carol -- Can this be made a sticky at the top of the page? I ask because I was looking for it earlier and couldn't find it (I guess I didn't go back far enough). Maybe if it was easier to find people would just post to this thread instead of starting a new one. :confused3

We actually have a Sticky Referral thread on top of the page under Ongoing Discussions which nobody has been using, lol.

We will just use this thread for the current promotion and perhaps go back to the sticky one later on. Thanks.

Actually, calypso that was a good idea. I went ahead and merged this thread with the existing "Looking for a Referral" thread which will stay STicky on top of the boards under "Ongoing Discussions".

That should help a bit with locating it...

Thanks for the request!
