My sister is interested in purchasing, but didn't mention there being a "cash off plus points deal." Can you share the specifics so that I can tell her what she should ask for...

I am a DVC member and would like to earn the referral credit, but didn't realize there was an extra incentive for her.

Thanks eveyone, i have the real name of the person that has helped me in past on this site( instead of just the screen name)
thanks

Rather than have multiple threads requesting a referral name or offering to be a referral, we're going to do the same thing we have done in the past - merge them all into one thread.

You can save the mods some trouble if you'll just post to this thread instead of starting a new one. ;) :)

I'm in South Carolina. My name is Jill Hiers and my guide is Jim McCoy. If you would like to use me, I am happy to help:thumbsup2

I was just reading on dvcnews.com(through a link from this forum) that the developer points are matched to the initial buy in. It didn't say anything about a minimum of 225 points. Does anyone have any further information on this?

Also, has there been any mention of how long this incentive will last?

Thanks!

This was offered to us when we purchased in September at Disneyland Resort. 200 point purchase would receive 200 developer points, also to include 2 (two) Premium Annual Passes, and a lithograph all at $94 per point. Hope this helps. It would have been really neat if they would have offered double developer points! We were able to get the April 07 @ SSR.

We are thinking about doing the DVC we are just new to all of this. Can you just tell me what developer points are?

I just updated my info. The 225 minimum purchase is correct. New members who buy 225 get 160 Developer's Points.

DVC doesn't announce ending dates up-front so there's no way of knowing right now. You can be certain that it will be at least a couple of months. Over the last couple of years they have also run incentives that gave an extra bonus to those with referrals on file. In those cases the promotions ran for a good 3-4 months.

You can be certain that once DVC tells their people that an incentive is ending, the info will be reported. I'm sure you'll find it here and on my site at least 2-3 weeks before the promotion officially ends.

Developer's Points are simply points held by DVC. In addition to selling you a 50-year ownership at Saratoga or Animal Kingdom Villas, DVC is giving you a one-time use of some of THEIR own points.

That's a fancy way of saying that if you buy 225 points or more at SSR or AKV, DVC will throw in an additional 160 to use one time only. The restrictions surrounding those points are simply that you can only book on 7 months notice, you only have 12 months in which to use them (buy now and you have to use the DPs for a stay by next October), and they cannot be banked.

It's a pretty sweet deal. With 160 pts you can spend 5-6 nights in a One Bedroom or 10+ nights in a Studio (resort and season dependent.) It's effectively a free vacation.

If you need a referral, feel free to send me a PM or email. :)

We just bought at AKL too! We had a great guide and did most of everything via telephone. He was great! If anyone wants additional information about our experience and our guide, just PM me and I'll be happy to provide information. Also, if anyone wants to use me are a referee, I'd love it! I live in SC and we would benefit from referring someone. PM me and I'll be happy to refer someone.

Wow, that's a bummer. I've been on the fence about diving in for 200 pts at AKV since speaking with a Guide just this past Saturday, 5 days ago. At that time he mentioned there is a 160 min. pts. Buy In and they would MATCH your points with Developer pts. to be used within current Use Year (buy 200 get 200 DD pts). Mentioned NO Annual fees for current 2007 UY which I think he said is June UY. Never mentioned this was about to change within just 4-5 days, though perhaps he didn't know.

I'm affraid if they've increased the Min. buy in to 225 and LOWERED the DD points to 160, then that kinda pushes me in the direction of declining for now. Guess I'll have to wait and see what I'm told when I call the guide again on Saturday. Thanks for the update.

Jim

It didn't change. With a 160 purchase you can still get either matching Developer's Points OR a cash discount off of the purchase. If you want to buy 200 and get the Developer's Points, you'll pay the full price of $104 per point plus closing costs.

If you buy 225 and have the member referral you can get BOTH a $8 per point discount on the purchase (taking AKV down to $96 each) AND 160 Developer's Points.

Oh, we're not supposed to use our real names here? Boy, Mrs. Man is going to be upset.

Do you also get the 500 bonus reward dollars if you are a Disney Visa cardholder?

Is the deal any "sweeter" for existing members?

Yup, I missed this point tj. I spoke with my Guide today and he said the same thing. So, my question to anyone now would be, what do YOU personally think is a better deal or more bang for the buck?

Offer 1: 225 pts. x $104 = $23,400 (Receive matching 225 Developer Points for 1 time use within first 12 months)

Offer 2: 225 pts. x $96 = $21,600 (Receive 160 Developer Points)

Difference for Offer 2 = $1800 LESS, but 65 Developer Points LESS as well

Assume all other factors equal (no Annual Dues for current UY, $500 Disney Visa Reward Dollars, etc.)

The way I see it, yes I'll pay $1800 more out of pocket with Offer 1, but the VALUE of the 65 additional 1 time Dev points you'd get with Offer 1 FAR exceeds $1800, at least if you were to consider the cost for purchasing 65 pts, though I recognize the difference is that purchasing them would be for the life of the membership as opposed to a 1 time use. Not that we'd rent the points out (we expect to use ALL Dev points within allotted time), but in order to really determine the more cost effective option, I think you must determine the approx. value of the 65 additional Developer points you would be giving up with Offer 2.

Am I not considering some variable, or is my logic mostly accurate? Thanks folks.

Actually, I think Offer 2 is a better deal. I would value the 65 pts somewhere between $10 and $13 per point. So I would value those points between $650 and $845.
(That is unless I'm missing something...and it wouldn't be the first time.;) )
