Need a QUICK ANSWER for all you photographers about a camera choice!

I would post this on the Photography board, but I figure I'll get a quicker answer here.

I am in the market for a new camera.... either a SUPER NICE point-and-shoot with good zoom or perhaps a DSLR.

I have an opportunity to buy a "barely used" Nikon D3100 with a 18-55 VR kit for what seems to be a really good price (about 40% off Amazon price).

Assuming it is in good/great shape, should I jump on this? ..................P

Never mind.... didn't want to miss the deal and the review on Amazon were overall very good, so I made an offer, she countered, and I accepted. Will be picking it up later today. Thanks anyhow!

There's lots of deals out there right now. I'm a Canon user, but Adorama, Cameta Camera and others all have great deals on DSLRs. Amazon will give you great deals, but if you look closely, some of the aforementioned businesses are other sellers on the site.

Well.... I guess I don't exactly know what was meant by "barely used" but I will say that it was fully packed up in its original box. The strap was attached to the camera body, but still had the fold marks from being wrapped up. She stated she owned it less than 6 months. It has a price tag on it from Target marked originally $499.99 and the clearance price was $299.98 and I paid $225. Unless we run into real troubles with it, it seems like it will be a great beginner DSLR for the person whom it is intended for. It had all of the parts listed that it was supposed to have, the battery charged and the camera turned on..... but I didn't want to mess with it any more than that.
