I've been working a lot of OT and will continue to do so for the next several weeks.

That means 10-11hr days with no lunch break and barely enough time to get up and pee - forget about walking around.
I need a good, quick, and easily kept pick me up to take to work with me when I am starting to crash and have hours to go before I am home having supper. I have a wicked sweet tooth - small amts of carbs are ok. not a fruit person and I hate raisins and celery.

Any suggestions?

How about a bag of peanuts. I get the boxes of individual bags of 1 ounce Planters peanuts at Sams. You need more than that but it is a start.Maybe some sf jello if you have a way to keep it cool.

No lunch break! Does that mean you have to eat lunch at your desk (or where ever you are?) or you just can't EAT lunch period?

What about a meal replacement bar - something like SlimFast? Maybe you can go to the GNC and talk to someone about your options - would you want just a protein bar or something that has a balance of protein/carbs/fat?

I think the nuts are a great idea as well! Hmmm, maybe beef jerky? ;) Protein is supposed to fill you up and keep you satisfied. Maybe half a whole grain bagel with a tablespoon of peanut butter (if you have the facilities to store that kind of stuff!)

The Atkin's Advantage bars are very filling, especially if you can combine them with a cup of decaf coffee. They could easily replace a meal in a pinch, and will hold you for quite a while if used as a snack. Plus, they taste great when you're desperate!

I agree with the Atkins bar and a cup of decaf! They are very filling and you'll feel satisfied when you're finished! Be careful with the SlimFast bars, they're filled with sugar!

Do you have a refrigerator nearby? You could keep some beef sticks or hard boiled eggs in there too for a late-afternoon snack!

I found that I love soy nuts, and they are quick and filling, and very low carb and high protein. I like dry cranberries and dry cherries and they mix well. If you don't like raisins maybe you would like those better?

ZonePerfect bars taste good and are a great meal replacement. A few of them are like eating a real candy bar but they are very well balanced. I love the Chocolate Peanut Butter, Chocolate Mint and Fudge Graham. The Apple Cinnamon are good too if you don't want chocolate.

My hubby has a schedule like yours...he uses the atkins advantage bars 2 or 3 carbs each depending on the flavor, or the morning start bars 2 carbs each.

All we have tried so far are delicious...really filling.

I have been finding them at our local grocery store, health food stores, walmart had some and kmart had some. Then I just ordered a big bunch from atkins website...shipping is one price no matter how much you order, and I don't have to keep looking for them, as they seemed to sell out quickly.

Thanks for the great ideas! I love the caramel zone bars, but the 200 calories per bar is kind of daunting when you're trying to keep below 1700 calories.

Are the atkins bars lower in calories?

I find rice cakes fill me up a lot and the caramel corn flavour satisfies my sweet tooth. Is that too high in carbs? I'm a Weight Watcher so I don't know?
CC

Sorry CC - Rice cakes are a no-no on Atkins. Rice is all starch/carbs. :(

I like protein shakes as a quick afternoon "snack" (again, only if you have access to a fridge). I also snack on protein bars. Ooh, one more thing if you have a fridge...string cheese. Or how about keeping a jar of peanut butter handy and bring in some celery sticks?

I'm not on Atkins, so some carbs are ok :) I can't get past that rice cake taste though :p
Thanks for the suggestions :) I'm going to check out the grocery store tonight and see what I can find
