Ok, so the other week we were running our disposal in the kitchen, and stuff backed up into the dishwasher. The sink drain was closed, so we figured that was the problem, ran everything again, everything was fine. So today, ran the dishwasher, went into the kitchen and there was water on the floor. The whole bottom of the dishwasher was filled with water, the drain in the sink was, as was the garbage disposal. This morning I put lots of normal stuff (garbage cleaning day) in the disposal and everything was fine. We hopefully can have someone come out tomorrow, but just wondering if anyone had any ideas what could be wrong? Just something stuck somewhere?

LOL Thanks everyone. We actually left a message for the plumber to call us in the morning since this isnt exactly an emergency. BUT...I figured maybe someone here would have some opinions if there was a plumber around the DIS.

Do not call my DH!!!! One day years ago, we needed our flapper changed and ended up with buckets sittong around the toilet collecting the dripping water that was leaking. I was also sitting on the edge of the tub crying my eyes out. We were down to one crapper. We ended up calling the plumber to replace the entire works...crapper and all. DH managed to crack the crapper. Do you realize the difficulty for a family to rely on just one crapper?

Plumbing problems suck!

My guess would be that the drain catcher/screen in the dishwasher needs cleaned out or you've got a block pretty far down the drain line. With a block like that, just running water in the sink won't cause a back up because the water trickles past the block but when the volume of water from the DW drains, you get a mess.

If it's the screen in the DW, ask the plumber to show you how to clean it. Don't try using Liquid Plumber in the drain - it won't clean a bad block and plumbers often won't work on a drain for 24-48 hours after you've used chemicals.

Here's hoping it's a quick and easy fix!
