Need a Plan at Hilton Head

Well, it may be vacation but I still need a plan We are heading to HH for the first time (I am usually not an off Disney person). It will be a quick trip for my DD9 and I. I am trying to figure out the highlights. I have gathered a few things from other posts but would appreciate if anyone can put times/days of the week or more details with anything below. I would also love any other suggestions!

We only stayed one night, so I can't really comment on a schedule, but don't forget... there is a dolphin cruise that goes out daily... also there is or was at one point a private dinner with Chef Gordon... Maybe if you re-title your thread to Need Help With Hilton Head, some of the HH people will see it! But, these are two activities I would not want to miss....

I have done this type of thing elsewhere and found it to be the longest hour+ of my life. Do you usually see dolphins in HH?

We always do miniature golf at a pirate golf place nearby the resort. Our kids love it. Renting bikes is also great, family bike rides are something we seldom do at home and our kids enjoy it. DH and I are big planners on most trips, but honestly, when we go to HH, we don't make plans. We get there, get the weekly activity sheet and go from there. We plan our naps around the activities that the kids want to do and plan our meals as to what DH and I want to eat. It is one of our favorite places to relax. I hope you have a great time!

We got within 5-10 feet of a couple of dolphins while doing a high tide kayack trip thru Disney... There is a mother and daughter and a teen that hang out in the marshy area beyond the pier. You can stnad out there and see them.... the come in with the tide.

I suggest taking a good look at the flyer they hand out at check in and circle all the things y ou want to do. Kids night out is a blast for the older kids. And parents like it too...

Kayacking was by far our fave thing to do. I did it both at high tide and low tide. High tide is dolphins, low tide is oyster beds and a zillion fish jumping.

Think of Hilton Head like a cruise ship. The Disney resort is the boat and there is a long list of activies, and places like Harbortown and Southbeach are shore excursions. So much too do if you want, and lots of nothing going on...

Ahhhhhhh I want to go back!

We were at HH last week and I'd be happy to email, fax, or whatever your preference, the activities schedule to you if you want it.

This was our third trip to HH and we love it because it's one of the few places we've been that you actually feel like you've had a vacation when it's over.

Renting bikes is a great idea. This time, we only rented for our DS11 and he loved being able to ride all around the resort paths on his own, then coming back and telling us how many marsh bunnies, squirrels, etc. he'd seen on his travels. I think it was about $26 for the week.

The campfire is Sunday, Wednesday and Friday at 8:00 p.m. and is a lot of fun. Silly songs, stories, dances, etc. that you pariticpate in, followed by s'mores. This is a free activity. Friday night, the weather looked threatening, so they put out the fire and moved the activities to Community Hall.

Kids' detective program. I think this is one of the kids' night out programs. Last week this one was on Monday night from 6-9 p.m. The kids get pizza for dinner and we saw groups of them with CM's all over the resort doing different activities. One group came through the den and doffed their hats to all of us there and said 'good evening' in unison, and then they were off again. Looked like they were having a good time. Our DS has never done this one, he likes the kids night out at the movie though. The cost for this is $20 for members.

Cookies in Big Murggie's Den. They have cookies and lemonade set up on a table right across from check-in outside the den every afternoon. Very good cookies.

I'm not sure about Shadow & B'lou on Friday mornings. I know Shadow accompanies B'lou to Shadow's Tales. It was on Thursday morning at 11:30 last week. B'lou told us Friday was his day off, so don't know if that's all the time or if it changes.

I can't say enough about B'lou Crabbe. We find ourselves entranced by his music and low country stories. He plays vintage instruments... penny whistle, violin, banjo, mandolin. We even have favorite B'lou songs we request when we're there! We've seen his magic show before too, and it's great! But, lately we miss it because it's on Saturday night and we choke at the points for Saturday's at HH.

I think you'll find plenty to do there, but not in a rushed way, if you know what I mean. It's very relaxing.

Hilton Head is our home base.....we love it! It's not a hurried, busy schedule like when you go to WDW (nothing wrong with that....love being busy at WDW!). It's a more relaxed atmosphere! They give you a sheet with all the activities for that week when you check in. Some are free and some have a charge. They have Mickey's Un-Birthday parties for the small ones, fishing, bike rentals, a behind the scenes tour of the Disney resort, water games at the pool, etc. We usually just split out time between the beach and the pool. We've been about 10 times and we just love it.....very relaxing!

Be sure to check the activity schedule that they give you at check in. While the types of activities offered remain the same, the actual schedule can vary from week-to-week. Don't want you to count on something for one night, but find out it's offered at a different time!!

The last 2 times we've gone, Shadow arrived on Thursday at 11:30 also. And on Wednesdays, there was a nice Member's Behind the Scenes tour (takes about an hour) that I've enjoyed.

We have been vacationing in Hilton Head for over 25 years and always go to Harbor Town to hear Greg Russell. My children still love it and they are now grown.

He performs in the evening under the Oak tree. He sings old songs and has children sing their favorite songs. It's free and lasts about 1 1/2 hours.

It's best to take the Trolley to Harbour Town ( also free ) because there is so little parking. You do have to buy a $5 gate pass to get into Sea Pines Plantation.

There is also a free performance by Shannon Tanner in the evening accross from DVC in Shelter Cove that is also good.

Just got back from 2 weeks at HH, but not at DVC. We were right across the road in Palmetto Dunes. Pirate golf was a big hit with 2 grandsons (7 & 10). But don't shy away from the dolphin trips because of your bad experience. We took the Zodiac raft tours and it was the highlight of the trip. I was a bit worried because the only one we could get was 11:15, which I don't consider prime time for dolphin viewing, but it was fantastic. They leave from South Beach Marina in Sea Pines (a fun experience in itself - good outdoor dining on the marsh, the Salty Dog t-shirt store). The "rafts" have been upgraded and now have heavy duty fiberglass bottoms and a few coolers and boxes set up inside for small kids to sit. There were 6 people on our trip. The 7 year old stationed himself in the very front of the raft and stood up the whole time, holding on to the ropes while the guide took us over waves - a mini-thrill ride. We saw several dolphins in the sound, but then went out aways where there was a shrimp boat. It was dolphin city. They were everywhere, swimming along side the raft, under the raft, babies and mothers (I assume). When the shrimp boat started to take up the nets, the dolphins jumped up out of the water to try and snag loose fish. Another thing the kids love to do - if you bike across the highway (there's a was to go under rather than cross the road) into Palmetto Dunes, there's a general store on the left, across from Alexander's restaurant. They have fresh donuts and on-site baked cinnamon rolls every morning. They also have an old-timey setup of loose candy in large jars that you can scoop out what you want. Beware - it's pricey, but the kids love to go there.

. Do you usually see dolphins in HH?

I have always seen Dolphins at HHI. They swim in the ocean and the waterways. The have it good there and they know it.

I have also seen a seal on the docks in front of DVC rumaging around a deck box like a raccoon. I dont know if seals are native or a boat owner has one as a pet.

I have not seen Shadow the last 2 times I have been. Back in April B'lou said that Shadow was sick and not able to come visit.

another CM said that she might be around 14 years old. (that makes her 98 if that is true.)

has anyone seen shadow since April?

I asked about Shadow when we were the earlier this month, and the CM at the front desk said Shadow was alive and well...

Shadow's tales was still on the activites list...

But we never saw him.... her?
