So my new-as-of-a-month-ago DH ....doesn't want to be "DH." Ever since I showed him the disboards, he has this strange aversion to the nickname. :confused3 I don't get it! He has been bothering me to start this thread since even before we were married.

He is requesting that I come up with an alternative name for him....so....

any ideas? I have a few in mind right now... :rotfl2::thumbsup2

Personally, I always read it as "Disney Husband". So tell him it means that and see what he says.

LOL, he doesn't like it. :rotfl: What is wrong with him?

So far I've com up with "Hubbers"...but why that is better than DH, I don't know!

Right now, PITA sounds pretty good... :cool1:

He should feel grateful... Sometimes "DH" means "Damn Husband"...

You can just type husband.

He could be SO (significant other):confused3 Better that than SOL

Oh, not "hubbers". That's right up there with "preggers". :scared:

This is novel, but how about "my husband", or whatever his name is, if by your post it's obvious he's your spouse.

I read DH as "dear" husband. It's not just the DIS or Disney sites that use it. And anyway, what does "Disney Husband" mean? Or DMIL? "Disney mother-in-law?" Would everyone be a Disney XXXXX? :confused3

How about "my husband"? I've been here over 8 years, and reading "DH" and all the other D's still grates on me. Even after all this time I came across one the other day that I couldn't even figure out who the person was talking about.

I don't mind the Disney attraction, resort, and other abbreviations (e.g. MK, POTC, ToT, POR, COP), and in fact I like those. But I don't understand needing to abbreviate everyday words like husband, daughter, son, vacation, reservation, pregnant, etc.

MaryAnn- I've heard "Dear Husband" and "Disney Husband," and I don't visit enough other message boards to know any better! :rotfl:

Yep, I vote for husband. Is it really that much harder to type husband than DH? Some of these abbreviations have really gotten out of hand. And they can have more than one meaning, like DS (dear son? dear sister?), DF (father? friend? fiance?).

almburr, I like your husband's translation the best.

Yeah, I have never understood why people just don't write "husband". Although, for me, the acronyms are not early as bad as "ressies" for reservations, "souvies", "vacay" and Christmas "pressies" (among MANY others). Yuck.

I call my MIL XXXXX all the time!:rotfl:

Just say my husband. The whole DH, DS, DD, Dwhatever thing is pretty dumb in my opinion.

almburr....he just agreed with your husband's translation...along with the fact that he thought DH sounded patronizing....I guess they're on the same team!

Looks like "husband" is winning so far...

And another thing... If the abbreviations are meant to save time/effort, why did whatever genius thought these up bother to put in the "D". Wouldn't just H be equally as effective? And does anyone actually go around calling their spouse "dear" husband or "dear" wife in real life?

Agreed! During our recent trip to Disney as we were eating I was thinking about people talking about "ressies" and even then it annoyed me! Guess if that's my biggest problem, then that's ok.

I spend 24/7 on message boards, so I know. ;) j/k The topic of what "DH" stands for has come up numerous times over the years, and one of the reasons some people see it as "Dear Husband" is because they've seen it elsewhere. IIRC, Flylady uses DH.

I always thought it meant "darling" husband, and I do say that IRL... of course the sarcasm doesn't come across on a message board quite as easily. ;)

ETA: I also write "souvies" because I never know how to spell it!
