Need a new cocktail to replace Vodka/Redbull. Recommendations?

Vodka gimlet

Does your drink have to be vodka based?
A mojito is a great drink, substitute coconut rum for regular and it's even better

Though my favorite vegas cocktail is the Vodka Redbull, I'm at an age now where energy drinks in general are very, very bad for me, so much as I'm reluctant to, I need to stop drinking them, therefore I'm on the hunt for another staple cocktail that I can enjoy while I'm at a bar playing video poker.

I'm looking for something fruity and colorful that's very tart or even sour, with a vodka base where the taste of alcohol is noticeable but not overpowering, that I can sip for some time and don't have to down quickly. One that was recommended to me is a sour apple martini, so I'm thinking about getting the ingredients for that just to experiment. I also like carbonation, so another idea was champagne + sour apple pucker.

Before the Vodka Redbull I used to drink AMF's, but those would get me tipsy almost immediately. They were potent as all hell. So it has to be something I can enjoy at a reasonable pace and not get intoxicated too quickly. My friends make fun of me because I can't just be a normal guy and enjoy a beer or something that tastes like gasoline, but hey, I am what I am.

Any recommendations?

Lemon drop:

vodka (regular or citrus, your choice); triple sec; lemon juice. I use powdered lemon peel w/sugar on the rim, after wetting rim with lemon juice.

Explore Gin. I used to be all about vodka but have found that I like gin now. I like Hendricks the best.

Gin Fizz is a good, basic drink. Or you can do a 7 and 7 (Seagrams 7 and 7 up). Gimlet is also a good drink.

As for Vodka, the closest to vodka and Redbull would be a Moscow Mule. If you want sweeter/sour, Seabreeze is a good one (vodka, cranberry, grapefruit, lime). Also, Lemon drop, Kamikaze, or Cosmopolitan.

When I am at a casino, I just order a vodka soda with lots of lemon or lime. At a bar, I will specify Grey Goose.

Vodka and fresh grapefruit juice. We have that at one of our favorite Key West bars. They have a big squeezer right on the bar.

Flavored Vodka & soda. Vanila Vodka & coke, Vodka Tonic, Screw Driver

I think it’s a big mistake and unhealthy to adulterate vodka with any other liquid. Try double shots neat and tell me you don’t feel better.

Occasionally I may do straight shots of tequila (Patron Silver), but never ever vodka. Vodka is a mixer for me, not something to take straight.

I'm still tempted to at least keep Vodka Redbull as my mainstay drink. I know I shouldn't drink Vodka Redbull but I've never had a problem with them. Hell, I had a double yesterday.

I have spent much time in Russia and live there now so very familiar with vodka consumption. I have one friend I always accuse of having a petrochemical complex for a liver. He can drink a liter and you can’t tell that he has been drinking. Speech and balance are fine. He says his biggest regret in life was that he could never out drink his father.

I had another friend and whenever we had a bet on something the stakes were the loser had to drink with the petrochemical complex for an evening. Serious stakes

Do you guys think sweet and sour would mix well with champagne? Champagne is carbonated, which is something I really like, so I'm game to try combining it with other things. I wonder how it tastes when mixed with sour apple puckers.

Someone mentioned kamikazes too. I drink those occasionally, but that's something I knock back as a shot, not sip like a cocktail.

I've had drinks with champagne and sour mix along with other things, but never just those two. Champagne and puckers are great together, watermelon or apple especially.

I have two you might like:
Grey Goose with club soda, a splash of St. Germain (so good) and a squeeze of lime.

Grey Goose Pear with champagne and St. Germain.

I just went to both Walmart and Target to get some Sour Apple Puckers, and neither of them had it. =/

Guess I'll have to wait until I do my weekly grocery shopping and hope Stater Bros has it.

Lemon drop or vodka tonic with lemon would be my picks. I did love me an appletini back in my drinking days. I was also partial to gin, especially in warmer months. Oh how I miss a good old gin and tonic.

You may also enjoy a Manhattan. It’s just whiskey, vermouth, bitters, and a cherry or orange peel. :drinking1

Do you ever drink screwdrivers? Orange juice and vodka; it's fruity, sour, you can't really taste the alcohol so you can sip it. It's so simple, the bartenders will love you! Used to be my drink, back in the day.
