I have tried Arm & Hammer as well as Fresh Step and they both stink (figuratively and literally). Anyone know of a good one?

I like woody pet.. its a horse bedding that comes in pellets.. I put the pellets about 2 inches deep in the litter box. when the pellets get wet they turn to sawdust. I just scoop the poop daily and mix up the pellets added a cup more pellets if needed...when they are mostly sawdust or start to stink, I dump the entire thing in my manure pile and start over again. I have 2 cats and 1 $6.00 bag will last me about a month....you do have to make sure you mix more dry pellets into the wet stuff so the urine is absorbed.. I also use it for the little box in the rabbit cage (except I only fill it about an inch high and dont scoop it.. I just dump it once a week...)

I had to break down and buy the expensive Cat Attract litter since one of them is peeing just outside the box. I have 3 litter boxes in the house, and he's just doing this in the laundry room. We're going on vacation in a few weeks, and I'm hoping this stops before then.

I was tired of having to scoop twice every day to keep the smell down, so I tried World's Best Cat Litter and my cat ATE it...so much for that!
I use Tidy Cats Scoop and it works well. I do feel like I have to scoop it once in the morning and once before bed.

There was another kitty litter discussion a few weeks ago, but it was about non-clay-based litters. In case you are interested in trying it, I highly recommend the corn-based clumping litter I buy at Petsmart that I believe is their store-brand (Exquisicat) version of brand "The World's Best Cat Litter". It clumps great for our 2 cats, and is the least smelly litter we've ever tried. Here's a link to the thread: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2544190

:rotfl2:That is funny! We use World's Best Cat and my cat's do not eat it!

Wow, the Fresh Step is the best I've found at masking litter odors.

We use Nature's Pine, it's one of the wood based pellets like mentioned in a few above posts. I only have to scoop out poop every couple of days and since the pee turns the pellets to sawdust, I just change out the whole bag when needed. Like someone else said, just add some pellets when it gets low, then change it all about once a month. We just moved and my mom had my cats till we got settled and she flew out with them on 9/1. I just dumped the bag of litter today, and really only cause it was trash day today and wasn't 100% sure it would last a week and my in-laws are coming to stay with us Monday. In the 23 days we had that bag of litter, I think I scooped it 5 times. Really low maintenance. And we have 2 cats that use the same litter box and no smells from it.

Has anyone found a scoopable litter with less dust/tracking issues? We have 3 cats of our own, plus we foster kittens and young cats for a cat rescue group, so we go through a ton of litter. We scoop litter boxes 2-3 times a day and there's a ton of dust and kitty tracking.

The best thing we've found for odor control is Arm & Hammer Cat Litter Deoderizer. It's not cat litter - it's a powder that you sprinkle over the kitty litter. Really makes a difference - even in a "crazy cat people" house. :)

Minniecarousel, I too have a cat who is peeing just outside the litterbox. It is making us all nuts. We have tried EVERYTHING but changing litter so maybe it's time for that. We have 3 cats, 2 male and one female who use 2 boxes.

We used to like Arm and Hammer but it wasn't keeping the odor down as well. We are using Tidy Cat but it is so dusty.

I am interested in the litters made from wood. Maybe we will keep one box as is and one new litter and see if that helps. Right now I am buying puppy pee pads to put on the floor in front of the boxes. They have been in the same place since we moved here 13 yrs ago so I have no clue why this all of a sudden.

I too had to change a few weeks ago...we went to feline pine (wood based)...I love it there is no NO smell (except for fresh pine). When I change it there is no urine smell, I don't have to hold my breath because there is no dust. My cats love it too, except for my little girl, probably not the litter since she is a princess and doesn't like to have her paws dirty. I recommend it due to low and I mean LOW tracking, now smell and healthier for the us and the cats.

You need another box. Our hospital recommends 1 box for each cat. Some cats are weird about their boxes. The fact the cat is going near the box means it 'wants' to use it, but something is keeping it out. If you have lids, take them off. Try something like Everclean or Scoop Away, no scent. Good luck!

I switched from Tidy Cats to Scoop Away and have never looked back. After each scoop, I sprinkle on a light dusting of Arm & Hammer Cat Litter Deodorizer.

We have 4 cats, so 4 boxes, two upstairs and two downstairs. I scoop sometimes once a day, sometimes every other day. Regardless, its a lot of scooping!

We use Dr. Elsey's Ultra Cat Litter. It is a little more expensive, but it clumps great, isn't excessively dusty (I don't believe that a dust-free litter exists) and because it clumps well lasts longer. We also use it in a Litter Robot. I found a great source of information that has really helped me understand my cats a little better....check out catinfo.org - we ended up changing our cats food and litter based on the information I found there. (Which I also researched elsewhere for confirmation)

4 cats, 3 litter boxes with no problems and we use cheap Walmart brand scoopable litter. I scoop them out once a day and we have no smell.

3 cats - 5 sand boxes of which 3 are covered/hooded and 2 are open.
We use Johnny Cat natural unscented scoopable and scoop them all once a day.

I hated the smell of the deodorizers in the other brands. We have a Mr. Fussy Pants and he used to go outside the box, that is when our vet suggested the unscented. We tried it and love it, so does Mr. Fussy Pants
