Today i saw my camea is broken beyond repair.
my mom saw nikon coolpix s6000... anybody familiar with this camera?
the reviews are all over the place on store websites.

Can anybody suggest a really nice camera for the price between 0 - $159.00

I like the Nikon Coolpix, Canon Powershot, Fuji Finepix, and I've had really nice results from a Pentax.
The pentax is what I used at Yosemite and got some magnificent shots. And extremely high resolution.
The Nikon is the camera my friend has, I usually wind up being the photographer and I've gotten some awesome night time shots at Disney and of the fireworks.
The Fuji is the camera I own. I had an old Fuji for many years since 2003, and upgraded a couple of times.
The Canon still wins out in speed though. When I worked at Disney I was handed many many different cameras, these were the easiest to use and change settings. If I was working indoors with the characters or at night time in front of the icon, I pretty much had to change the settings to make sure a decent picture would turn out.

It's all in the way you want to use the camera. Any camera can have negative reviews based on a customer's experience and knowledge with the proper workings of a camera and the settings.

I will say to stay away from Kodak, they are often way too slow to get any decent pictures if you have children, night photos don't turn out that great, and most of them are bulky.
And pay attention to the black friday ads. Many of them have really good deals on point and shoots. Target already has theirs out with Nikon s205 for 80$ as a doorbuster deal. That is if you like the mad rush, and crazy people with crazy lines and all that other fun stuff.

I like my Nikon Coolpix much more than the Kodak Easy Share I had before it. But I liked the Kodak much more than the Cannon I bought before that one!

Now is a good time to need one, but be careful. A lot of the door-buster type sales for Black Friday are really crappy cameras that will only take a decent picture in absolutely perfect conditions. I don't think you will find a "really nice" camera for that cheap. You can get a "decent" camera for cheap, but not a "good" one. There is a difference. If you want more difficult action shots, low light shots, etc - anything beyond "stand still and pose and say cheese" - then you will need a nicer camera.

I just bought my mother in law the Nikon CoolPix S6000. The other camera that was considered was a Samsung Lumix DMC-FH20. My criteria were 7x or higher zoom lens, HD video, and extremely simple operation with decent quality photos.

I have Canon T2i and Canon G9. I know what good high end SLR and point and shoot photos look like. The CoolPix is certainly acceptable. The CoolPix won out because video was decent and super simple to use, along with HDMI support. The "advanced" options such as night shooting, fireworks, pets, etc. were almost idiot proof to get to. And finally red eye is supposed to be detected and "fixed" in the camera before the image is saved. I haven't seen it in action, but even if slightly true will do wonders for my mother in laws pictures as she isn't about to correct them using software later, despite how easy it is to do.

The only downside is the battery is recharged by plugging the entire camera to the charger ipod style. Not crazy about that, but very thin cameras seem to be going that direction. Costco had a bundle with 4GB card and case for a few dollars more than amazon charged for the camera alone. The Samsung also had a bundle at Costco, but buying the camera alone at Amazon is way cheaper.

Just bought a Canon Powershot yesterday for $149 on sale from $179. They also had another one for $119 which was almost identical. I got it at Best Buy, but Walmart has the same ones at the same price.

All the reviews seem to recommend Canon. The picture screen is crystal clear which I really like.

Hope this helps!

Another vote for Canon...to me, they are the most intuitive to use...and they take great pictures.

just bought the S6000...so far I love it. I got it at walmart.com for $159 with free in-store pickup.

Just bought the Canon Powershot SX210. 14 Megapixels, 14X optical zoom and from the reviews, the video is amazing.

I bought a Kodak Easyshare last BF at the top end of your range, and HATE it! It has an absymally slow recovery time and is quite heavy. I'm going to sell it on Ebay and buy myself something different this BF.

so today, i went and bought the Nikon Coolpix s6000. Got home and there was no camera strap in the box. For $192.00 it should have came with a strap. So i go back out to a closer Best Buy and they give me grief. All I wanted was an exchange. :headache: The stupid guy behind the customer exchange desk was going to give me a strap for another camera that was cheaper then $192.57.

I didn't want to take any chances of the camera not working.
So he then said I'd have to bring it back to the same best buy i got it at and waste my gas and time (it would have taken me at least an hour and $1.00 for toll). So i went to the manager. She was sooooo help ful. and I got a new camera... exchange. So now the s6000 is charging. ..

I am sooooo gooing to be relieved when we touch down in Orlando tomorrow where we have 1 rule to our trip. No phone calls for business of any sorts.
NONE.

Why does everything have to be a hassle?
WHY!

*The only good thing that happened today was that i realized that my flight was earlier then i thought it was. I thought it was a 7:45am flight but it's a 7:00am flight which means we'll get there earlier then i thought. :) :cool1:

glad you got a camera you like!

my kodak easyshare that was 3 years old and had taken at least 2k pics decided to die as we're driving through the welcome to disney world sign! *sigh*

$20 for a disposable in the camera shop, but i needed a camera!!

that night i went to walmart and bought a sony cybershot. i love it!

there was a lady in front of me at the electric light parade and i asked her what type of camera she had. i noticed how great her pictures were coming out on the lcd screen.

so thank you lady in front of me at the electric light parade for making my camera choice easy! :yay:
