Need a little support from my peeps

As one who had flight cancelled a day+ prior to
an August trip, it will be a awhile before that thot doesn’t cross my mind before future trips. Wasn’t a happy camper to drive 12 hrs to beach. will say that three subsequent RT Flights have been uneventful.

we visited WDW multiple times once WDW reopened starting in 9/20. different vibe but, still enjoyed them all

Did cancel the ‘20 Thanksgiving trip as the numbers/unvaxxed combo gave me serious pause, as there are immuno issues in our family.

thrice jabbed before this year’s September trip, felt comfortable. Well, until we attended the packed after hour events. Lost count of the number of times people would cough or sneeze and not bother to make an attempt to cover their mouths :rolleyes1

One man was challenged over removing his mask in crowded monorail to loudly sneeze. His excuse? said there was no way he was going to wear a snotty mask all day

It didn’t keep us from returning for thanksgiving trip this year. It was then that the increasingly relatively stationary crowds had me doing some deep thinking. Enough that I cancelled a mid January long weekend.

Do figure the skies will part again by the time we are set to return pre Easter:wizard:

OP unfortunately it appears people can be reinfected with different variants, especially as their protection wanes with time. That was a real
Slap Upside the head to process for me

Ive hadfamily members infected, one is designated a long hauler. They are absolutely not the same person now but, alive. Another did pass & it seems nearly every day an employee or patient in my Mom’s nursing home is testing positive. It’s honestly nothing you ever expect will happen to you & yours

That said, while rooting for your trip to happen, nobody can make this decision but you. Good luck!

Totally know where you are coming from. After 2 years of my family doing absolutely everything right and no holiday gatherings in 2020, our 2021 Thanksgiving was altered due to contact by granddaughter (never got ill). I was contact at Christmas by someone who had tested negative twice before coming but positive after (I had no symptoms but isolated anyway), and New Years visit by DD family was cancelled because SIL had contact. I'm tired of this.

That said, DH and I are leaving Thursday morning for 2- day drive to FL for a month (VB/SSR/HHI). We will do a contactless stay somewhere along the way then hit a grocery store every other week. We will stay in unit or walk beach or paths. No parks, no Disney Springs if busy. Hope to feel comfortable sitting by pool. I just need to be somewhere other than my house.

We also have WBPC scheduled in March. I'm hanging on to the idea of a quick spike and quick reduction. I don't even care if we miss every port.

It'll likely be better by February. It's going to get worse between now and then though so try not to stress.

I think you are right.... and the worse before it gets better won't help. I know our spike is going to end (I mean it has to). But I don't know if it will fizzle out before mid-fed, or if we will still be in the peak. Figure each person who tests positive has to wait it out 5 days before returning to work. At half a million people a day, that's a rolling 2.5 million people on leave at any one time.

We are all there with you! We live in Upstate NY and so driving it will be tough if flights get cancelled

Tough drive if you have to make it! I used to live in MD so only a few extra hours closer. Hoping your flight goes okay!

There with you. Leave in 4 weeks and going unless I myself am sick. Backup plan is a 24 hour drive and to me that is better than cancelling.

24 hour drive! You have it worse than I do! I keep thinking that if the plane is cancelled, it will effectively add 2 days to my trip (or remove 2 days from Disney, and I am only there for 6.... plus we were going to see family the first day which means we really will have to leave on Friday and I would miss another day at work).

One of my co-workers drove to West Palm for x-mas. Told me the drive was hell. So... yeah.

nobody can make this decision but you.

Eh. As I said, it's not really a question of IF we go. There is not a decision to be made. It's more stressed about what we are going to have to go through along the way!

To those in the same boat.... I guess we all go together. I am there Feb 12-19th, so if you are there the same time, hope to see you in passing and I hope I give you a friendly wave and smile! To those before or after, I hope you have safe and comfortable flights and that your flights go without a hitch! I guess part of the reason I am worried is that on our trip in October, we managed to dodge a bullet - we our flight was not cancelled, but we were there right in the midst of the mass cancellations of southwest. I figure my luck has to run out at some point! But I mean if the system breaks down, it breaks down and we rent a car and drive.... Assuming there are rental cars to be had, at least. Otherwise, I guess we can Uber it one city at a time all the way home!

We check in on the 19th, so maybe we will exchange the "DVC nod" at the airport. As a side note, we always chuckle at the looks on the faces of those arriving and those departing when we are at MCO. Those walking from the gates or going to baggage claim are always excited and smiling, with children who are skipping and can't wait to get to WDW. Those walking to the gates or to security always have a somewhat glum look, with children they are practically dragging. It's just funny to see those two expressions juxtaposed in the same location.

Heading down from PA first weekend in February. Have afternoon flights booked out of Harrisburg, and backup flights out of Baltimore at night (Southwest points). If the Harrisburg flights go, I'll cancel the backup and book a backup return flight with the points. We'll figure out the car at the wrong airport later if it comes to that.

so maybe we will exchange the "DVC nod"
wait, there’s an official DVC Nod? guess that’s the new best kept secret! Don’t mind me, just spent 3 hours booking placeholder & waitlisting for December, 2022…I’m goofy.:earboy2:

OP that positive attitude will carry you a long way no matter what life throws at you.:moped:

I was just making it up, but maybe we should come up with one. It will be the new "Jeep wave". LOL.
