Need a Little Help

I could point you in the right direction, but I've seen your posts before and can't help but wonder how long it will be until you start telling this board how DTD DLR should of been built, or how DCA should of been built.

How long before you tell us about DLR?

Okay:confused:

I would start with the stickies at the top of the board. These guys have put together a treasure chest of info.

Sorry Anthony...that wasn't directed at you. I was confused by the previous post to mine.

Your suggestion on best place to stay?
There are many opinions on this board as to where to stay. Many like the HOJO across the street. Best Western Park Place Inn has been getting good reviews lately. So has Park Vue Inn and Suites. The last two are directly across the street, closest you can get with out staying onsite. As for discounts, you can like these hotels on facebook for special discounts. The HOJO has what they now call a "retro" discount. You need an entertainment card, but can recieve rooms for as low as $59/nt.

I know here we have sites like Undercover Tourist which offers discounted tickets, surely you guys have sites like that.

Discount ticket places that I have used are Last Minute Tickets and Get Away Today both good websites for reduced tickets. There may be a special run by disney, watch for the summer special in the next couple of months. The current one ends on April 15.

Chances of free dining plan in September?

Unfortunately at this time, Disneyland does not do a free dining plan. What they do have, is not the same in any way to what is at WDW. The plan they do have is basically vouchers worth the same amount you paid for them. You do not get change if you use less then the voucher is worth. Some people really love it, since they can pre-pay for their meals, some people hate it. I have never tried the DL plan, so I can not give a real opinion on that.

Depending on when you go in September, you may miss both the Haunted Mansion AND Space Mountain. They will be closed for a little while for the Halloween overlay. If you are wanting to see these, I would plan for later in September.

Y'know, just ANYTHING..... Thans in advance.[/QUOTE]

We've been to both DLR and WDW many times although DLR far more. They're two very different experiences but equally great. For us WDW's dining selections are a big part of our vacation at WDW. We enjoy the free dining that allows us to go out for a nice dinner each night as well as a good lunch. Because of this its a slower paced vacation and thus we go for 6-8 days.

DLR has 80% of the rides, shows and attractions in 2 parks as WDW's 4. Both parks, Downtown Disney and 3 onsite resorts as well as many offsite are all in walking distance from each other. Park Hopping is totally different than WDW. Its common for us to go back and forth between the two a couple times in a single day as they're only 5 minutes walk. Because of the compactness we get alot more done each day and thus DLR is great for a 3 or 4 day vacation.

At DLR there are no busses, boats etc. to bother with that take up considerable time. The monorail really isn't used as a form of transportation like WDW. It's more of a ride although it does connect Downtown Disney to Tomorrowland inside Disneyland (15-20 min walk at most). That means a valid park pass is required to use the monorail.

As noted there is no such thing as free dining at DLR. There are some great restaurants but a small fraction of whats available at WDW. Also note that there are only 3 onsite hotels, all Deluxe. There are numerous 1 to 3 star hotels in walking distance and many 3 and above resorts just down the road. All have their own shuttles to DLR or use the cities hotel/disney shuttle service (ART).

We will be at DLR next month for 4 1/2 days then San Diego for 2. We'll be staying near Knotts Berry Farm about 5 miles from DLR as hotel prices are much lower and we have our own car. Can't wait!!

You say your girlfriend is a cast member at WDW. You should talk to her about what discounts she can get on Disneyland hotels and tickets. I was talking to a Matterhorn cast member one day when waiting for the rest of my family to ride, and she was telling me all about her great WDW trip she had just returned from. She said she got discounts on lodging and tickets since she was a Disneyland cast member.
