Here's our situation. DH and I are planning a trip to WDW June 25-July 6. We just found out last night that our 6 year old grandson MIGHT be going with us. We've taken him one other time with his parents, but this will be the first time we'll have him at WDW all by ourselves. Of course, the planner in me started right away! I could use some help in determining which restaurants he might enjoy.

I know we want to take him to Donald's Breakfast at AK and probably the character breakfast buffet at the Contemporary.

What other restaurants might he enjoy? I don't think he's real picky and we're pretty good at pursuading and negotiating choices with him. He's very well behaved but has his moments--just like any other little boy. I just want to make sure that the restaurants we choose have a fun atmosphere.

I am sooo excited!! I hope that everything does work out and that we will have him this summer. Grandma has a lot of spoiling to do!

I had completely forgotten about Pizza Planet! He'd love that! Thanks!

How about Cinderella's Royal Table for lunch or dinner. My sons loved it at that age....actually they still do.:D

I have 3 DS's who were 9, 7, and 3 1/2 on our last trip. The restaurants thet they enjoyed most were Donald's Breakfast, Garden Grill, Pizza Planet, Sci-Fi, Hollywood and Vine, and Cosmic Ray's.

We also went to the Benihana (in one of the hotels @ Down Town Disney) on a non-park day and they really enjoyed it. In fact it was the 9 year old's favorite meal of the trip.

Donalds is my DS's favorite but he also likes Rainforest Cafe, H&V, HDDR, CRT for lunch or dinner and coral reef at Epcot.
Sounds like a fun time for all. Enjoy.

At that age my ds(now 11) loved Sci Fi Dine In, Chef Mickey's, RainForest @ AK, Garden Grill, Beaches & Cream, San Angel Inn and anything character. He also loved to play mini golf, feed the fish off the Yacht Club dock and stay in the pools more than the park!

Your grandson is a lucky boy! I know he will have a blast just being with you.

When my son was that age he loved:

Crystal Palace
Cinderella's Castle for lunch
Sci-Fi
'Ohana's for dinner
Garden Grill for the ice cream social

Although we have never been, Chef Mickey's or Whispering Canyon at WL might also be great options considering your grandson's age.

How fun that you might to have a solo trip with your grandson! I agree that grandkids are for spoiling:) Have a great time on your trip!

Oh, thank you! Thank you!

There are such great ideas here! I think he'd love Whispering Canyon and the ice cream social at Garden Grill. He'd probably enjoy Beaches & Cream, too. DH isn't a big fan of Hoop De Doo, but he might capitulate since it is for his favorite kid!

I'm not sure the little guy would like Cinderella's Royal Table. We have a picture of him with Jasmine taken at Morocco and he was just a bit embarrassed. Then again, he was four at the time. We took him to Chef Mickey's for breakfast on his first day at WDW--just to ease him into the characters. He loved it!

How about Epcot world showcase restaurants? We love San Angel Inn, but aren't sure how a six year old would do. Do they have a decent kids menu? I know he loves Taco Bell, but this is quite a bit different! Any other suggestions?

I hate to admit it but I don't know a lot about Ohanas dinner. We had breakfast there about five years ago, but never dinner.

Mini-golf would be great fun with him--what a wonderful idea!

He might get a kick out of 50's Prime Time Cafe. My DD really enjoyed watching her Dad and I getting yelled at for putting our elbows on the table and not cleaning our plates. :D

One note about Cindy's for lunch or dinner, there will not be characters in the restaurant. Throughout the day, Cinderella and the Fairy Godmother are downstairs, where you wait to be taken to the restaurant, however she does not walk around (you have to go up to see her), so I think that your grandson might not be embarrased by the experience. What my son likes about going there is 1) it's in a castle (very cool if you are a boy...the whole knights and dragons thing!), 2) the CM's call him "prince", and 3) at times, Captain Hook has been know to chase Peter Pan around the outside of the castle and you can witness this through the castle windows. It is very funny! My DS, who is now 9, would be mortified to attend the Cinderella breakfast but for lunch and dinner he still thinks it's all pretty cool!

He WOULD love to see Captain Hook & Peter Pan! And, you're right--he would probably enjoy having lunch in a "real" castle. I wasn't aware that the princesses were only at breakfast. I doubt he'd enjoy them! On the other hand, Grandpa....never mind.

DD who is 5 and loves Taco Bell would not touch the tacos from San Angel Inn in Epcot. It wasn't the 'same' according to her. She did love eating in The Land. There were lots of choices for her. Rice in Morrocco was a good hit too, as was the fish in the UK Pub 'even though it wasn't really fish sticks like we told her'.

Of course if you're unsure, the American Pavillion will sell you a cheeseburger but that almost seems like missing the point of being in the World Showcase. The Electric Umbrella also had some standard 'kid fare' that she was ok with.

She also enjoyed Whispering canyon for dinner - they actually had a kid rodeo where kids got to ride around the dining area on stick horses. It was a lot of fun.

Pizza Planet was a hit also, and she just LOVED playing some of the games afterwards (it was a great way to let mom shop while she burned off some energy).

All the other places people metioned are all really nice for kids - I don't think you will have a problem. If you can, also try Bomas at AKL for Dinner. Lots of choices for kids and you will LOVE the food for adults.

San Angel has cheese quesedillas on the kids menu which are plain enough for most any child I would think. They also have nachos.

My DS is 6 & in addition to Chef Mickey's & Beaches & Cream, he loves the following:

Spoodles - loves watching them cook in the open kitchen

Cape May Cafe - paper as the "tablescloths" & crayons for
drawing (last trip our waiter took his picture &
hung it up - he was thrilled)

Trail's End Buffet - at Fort Wilderness; he loved the casual
atmosphere, the food is very "kid friendly"
(pretty much the same as HDD, w/o the show),
& the waitstaff is great!!

Crystal Palace - Food assortment is good, the Pooh characters are
OK for a guy, and there's plenty going on at all
times

My six year old DS really liked Biergarten at Epcot. It has a buffet with plenty of choices and the band calls the kids up to do the chicken dance. He might like this one if he's not shy, and it is a change of pace from character meals.

My DS is 7 and a picky eater. He does like the Prime Time Cafe at MGM, especially if Mommy gets in trouble for not eating her vegies. He also likes Chef Mickeys and Garden Grill and anywhere that servces hotdogs.

Yeah, I ended up eating her taco myself and getting her one of the quesadillas. she did eat that. (Of course, she related it to Qdoba:rolleyes: )

For a character lunch or dinner, I highly recommend the Garden Grill at Epcot. My children love the place and we have always had a lot of interaction with the characters there.

Other places my children have enjoyed have been:
Crystal Palace
Ohana's
Chef Mickey
