DH and I are attending a birthday party for a friend on Saturday. Part of the evening's festivities is a drink contest. The birthday girl will be judging and I want to have a good showing so I was wondering if anyone had a killer cocktail recipe that they would like to share.

I'm not looking for anything in particular although I do enjoy vodka and rum libations.

TIA!!

We stick to pretty simple things - mainly wines, basic martinis, and occasionally whisky on the rocks. But if you're looking for some cool ideas go to the foodnetwork site and look for the show hosted by Sandra Lee (?) - it is the one on almost homemade. She always has some interesting cocktail ideas as part of her menu for entertaining.

Good luck!
Deb

I love to make these.

Outback Steakhouse's Wallaby Darned

1 cup frozen sliced peaches
2 ounces champagne (or Sprite)
1 ounce peach schnapps
1 ounce vodka
4 ounces (1/2 cup) Kern's peach nectar
2 or 3 ice cubes

1. Combine all of the ingredients in a blender. Blend on high speed for approximately 30 seconds or until ice is completely crushed and the drink is smooth.
2. Pour into a 12-ounce glass and serve with a straw.

In 2003 we took a trip starting in San Francisco and ending up at the grand canyon. We had a lot of chocolate martinis on that trip and we kept saying that the ones we had in Sequoia Nat'l Park were the best. After we got home we called the parks restaurant and asked for the bartender, he gave us this recipe:

1/4 oz. Stoli Vanili vodka
1/2 oz. Kahlua
1/4 oz. White creme de cocoa

Shake the above ingredients in a shaker with ice. Drizzle chocolate sauce in a spiral on the inside of a martini glass, strain contents of the shaker into the glass.

I also like a Kir Royale which I had for the first time in Epcot at the booth outside of France. It is different. It is made from champagne and Creme de Cassis. I think it is supposed to be 5 parts champagne to 1 part creme de cassis, but depending on how sweet you like it is how much creme de cassis to put in, you need to experiment to see what you like best.

These are both fun and I love the names...

Woo Woo - Cranberry juice, OJ and watermelon pucker. Yum!!!

An Affair - Cranberry juice, vodka and watermelon pucker. Double yum!!!

You can use any kind of pucker/schnapps you like. I think the actual recipes call for strawberry. Both go down easy and serve over crushed ice.

We really like Beer Margaritas

Can of Minute maid limeade thawed slightly but still cold
Tequila (I use a 1/2 can measure of the limeade can but feel free to use more)
5 chilled bottles Corona

Mix in large pitcher.

Everyone loves these and their super easy.

Martini's Grille

This place makes really good martinis. I would put this restaurant in any city I've lived in and you'd have a heck of a time getting in.

If you want to really make a splash, find a place that you can get chunks of dry ice like they have at this place and you can make bubbling martinis. They look neat and you just might win. ;)

our favorite is margaritas....recipe is from a local family run restaraunt.....our favorite waitress there shared it with us.

Take one of those clear pitchers they use in restaraunts....you know the kind that pitchers of beer or pop come in. I only use this for making and transfer to a lovely pitcher for serving.

Fill 2/3rd with ice
Up to the bottom of the handle with Sauza Gold Tequilla
triple sec about the same depth as the tequilla
then fill up to the bottom of the top handle with a margarita mix....or limemix ready made in a bottle from the liquor store no alcohol added.
Add a 1/2 cup of 7 up
and a splash (just a little one or it is too sweet )of grand marnier to the top..stir.....and enjoy! They are smmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmooooooooth! But you must use good tequilla. You can taste the cheap stuff..yuck!

Gosh I have to edit this and get that third layer of ingrediants.....dah...sorry its 2am and I don't feel like walking downstairs yet.

I saw one on the Food Network Thanksgiving special... it was like cranberry juice, orange juice concentrate and vodka... freeze it in a large flat-ish container, and then scrape out, like a granita or slushy (use that Pampered Chef ice cream dipper that I know you have!!!)

It looked so cute -- they dished it into little martini glasses.
