We will be staying at the Dolphin in July, arriving after 2:00. What is the best location to request? We are staying there for a conference, but paying the teacher's discount, so we are not expecting much room-wise. We have lucked out on one stay at the Swan when we got upgraded to a balcony room with a view toward Epcot. Anyone get upgrades at the Dolphin on a discount?

We have stayed at the Dolphin many times with and without a discount. We have got upgraded to a balcony room, when the resort wasn't too full.

We have also had them give our non-discounted room..great room, balcony, view...away..before we got there because someone whined at check in.

Just depends on the castmember you get.

What is the best location with/without a balcony?

YES! We recently stayed at the Dolphin using the teacher rate. We were upgraded to an East wing room facing the Boardwalk/Epcot area. The view was absolutely spectacular!
The room had been recently rennovated and those BEDS! Ahhhhhhhhh! We did not have a balcony although the rooms on both sides of us (8021 and 8025) as well as the rooms above and below us (9023 and 7023) did. Anything above the 5th or 6th floor would have the same view as long as you were in an odd numbered room.

We were in room 8023. I'd highly recommend it.

My favorite location is in the inner west wing toward the end of the wing/hall facing east/EPCOT, the clamshell fountain and the Swan/BW area. The view is wonderful and so is the location. You can also get the same view minus the clamshell fountain in last west wing as long as you face east and are toward the end of the wing.

The further down the hall the quieter your room is likely to be--the best rooms by far are the king rooms at the very end with the "torret" oversized balconies--awesome rooms-great views although some are a bit obstructed with trees but you can see between the trees, if they have trees the balconies are very private.

I also like this location (in the west wings) because it's a quick elevator ride down to the 1st floor and Tubbi's is right there. If you're in the east wings it is a much longer walk, although not terribly long if you crossover on your floor rather than through the lobby because then you have to go to another set of elevators or take the escalator down once you get to the lobby. We used to cut through the Coral Cafe but since being replaced with Blue Zoo I don't know if you can do that anymore.
