What size car? General advice is to book the best cancel-able rate that you can now then keep checking for better rates along the way. If you find something better, book it and cancel the previous reservation. If the rates go up, you will be happy you have a reservation. If you don't book now, you could get burned.

I've found that Alamo has the best rate for that timeframe.

You should book now, sometimes the rates go up closer to the time. You can always cancel and rebook if you see cheaper rates.
