Neck coolers

We are heading to WDW in June and then again in August-- HOT HOT HOT!!! I saw a mention on here about neck coolers, and I wondered if anyone had tried them and found them effective? If so, where did you get them? I found a place online that sells Disney themed ones that I am sure my kids would like...

But does anyone know anything about this company?

Thanks!

I tried them one year (a different brand) and they were kind of gooey. A plain bandana that I re-wet every so often worked as well, if not better. And it's more multi-purpose, good for forehead wiping, cleaning up food spills, etc. which band was not.

Bought one from Dicks sporting goods. This was about 3 years ago. It was very hot and no matter how many times I soaked it, it never worked right. What I've always done is take a good zip lock bag & small wash cloth. Fill the bag w (small cup) ice throughout the day, when you need a cold break you have a cold cloth. Cup of ice is free, just drain it when it needs it. I use a small backpack in the parks, the cold feels amazing on my back also. Tina

We loved ours. They worked perfectly. We'd wet them with cold water before we left for the parks. Then when they warmed up, we'd get the free glass of ice water and use that to cool them down. We would have gladly paid for the ice water because it was such a help. I bought ours at Wal Mart either in the camping or the fishing section-it was in sporting goods.

My DD11 loves neck coolers. If she has one of those and a fan, she's happy. Otherwise she's miserable in the heat.

I use them sometimes and like them when I use them. But they can feel slimy after awhile on your neck.

I've never tried that company you mention.

I got mine from a vendor at the Stone Mountain Park Yellow Daisy Festival. I buy a new one for my DD11 every year.

A spray bottle is also helpful -- especially for the kids. They may need reminding to be careful not to spray other people, tho. My DGS loves refilling his at any handy water fountain and spraying it into his mouth, too -- that helps keep him hydrated (and it's very hard to get him to drink water any other way!).

I've used Cooldannas (Sp?) from QVC and they were very good especially coupled with a small misty mate. I got them several years ago so I don't know if they still have them. I would soak them in the ice bucket in the room. They have bead-like things inside that swell when soaked and they last for hours.

We bought ours from QVC too and they have been fantastic. No complaints about sliminess from us! We soak them all night in the sink, no need to make them freezing cold. We don't re-soak them in the parks though because they aren't dried out. That may be what makes them get slimy, if they get oversoaked.

They have to soak for at least 8 hours, more the first time before you use them. You kind of "condition" the beads that way, at least that's what we were told.

I think the quality of the fabric around the beads makes a difference. Some are made with a cotton fabric and the beads will actually squeeze out of the spaces in the fabric, which makes them totally yucky. The fabric on the QVC ones is a very tight weave, thick and very smooth so it's comfortable against your skin.

We used ours every day in the hot weather and will use them again in June. A cool scarf around my neck, a bandana around my head to soak up the sweat and a visor, not a hat, so the top of my head can breathe.

Just bought a new one for work. Our AC is out and it's been 90 degrees inside for the last few weeks.

I found it works best if you put it, wet, in the freezer for about 15 minutes. The cup of ice water at WDW would be a perfect recharge!

They work fine for me.

I'm thinking about making my own with a velcro pouch that I can put a ziplock bag filled with ice or the gel from an ice pack (also in a ziplock).

Has anyone tried this? How well did it work?

I soak mine in ice cold water for 30 minutes. That is plenty of time and they don't feel slimy. I have used the ones from this company and I am very pleased. I re-charge them with cold water when needed.

I use a cold wet wash cloth & put that on my neck. Each time I use the restroom I wash it then run cold water on it again & it seems to work. But these other things you all use sounds better.Didn't know they sold stuff like that.

I just bought on Amazon these neck coolers that has little ice packs (like for a cooler) that you freeze and then slide them into a neoprene cover. Haven't tried them yet, but they cost about $8 for two.

I use the Frogg Toggs Chilly Pads. They are not gooey & work great. They are light weight and come in different fun colors. I have bright pink, my DH has a sky blue one he uses for work. You run them under the water fountain when they start to not cool you off & they work again :thumbsup2 (the cooling lasts longer if you can put it in ice) I got my pink one thru their official site for like $12 with shipping, my DH got his at The Bass Pro Shop for like $13.

Those would be great for when I strain my neck. They are big, so I wouldn't wear them to events, but nice for neck pain.

I have used the neck coolers from countrynmore. They are not slimy at all. I have soaked them in ice water.
