neck coolers~any one here make them?

so i saw the idea for the neck coolers, googled them and found out how to make them. great! made one for trial to see if they actually work. we have had some AC issues at work and i have a menopausal (sp?) woman who works my kitchen. who better to try it out than her, right? she said that it worked great BUT after it dried out it had a kind of musty smell to it? anyone know what i did wrong? i just used basic fabric. 100% cotton i think. i really didn't pay that much attention to it. it has finding nemo all over it. bought at walmart if that helps any. any advice from anyone who has made/used them would be appreciated. thanks!

wow...sounds great! what was the website?
I haven't made any and not sure why it would be musty smelling if it was 100% cotton....that would be my choice of fabrics.
Did you wash the material before you made it? Use fabric softener? I guess those would be the only things I could think of doing.
I am subscribing to this thread so I can learn more!

that is the website i used. it has pictures. i am VERY challenged!!! LOL if you don't like those directions, just google how to make neck coolers and you will come up with lots of sites.
everything i read said that the water crystals could be bought at walmart. i could not find them there. i ended up at lowes and they cost about $14. then i bought two yards of fabric. disney of course. this has made 8 of them i think. maybe more. good luck and have fun!!!

I tried them also, and came to the same problem you had. I also found that they didn't rehydrate well. I think that the problem might be with crystals. The ones that I used was the ones that you put into plants to keep them hydrated. There has to be other types out there.
