Neck Cooler Things?

before you check online, check your local craft stores like hobby lobby. If walmart has any I bet they are in a strange location other then the garden center... maybe in crafts or by the fake plants :confused3 just never know with wal mart lol

I saw some on QVC (where else..lol) last week and I think there were 5 or 6 in a set for like under 24.00. You could probably check out their website for them.

Hey Chicklogic. I hope that you didn't bump yourself too hard. How is everyone doing?

I made them for our trip a few years back. Luckily, I had some of the water crystal things already, in the garage (for the garden). One helpful hint if you make your own (they are very easy to make) don't put too much of the crystals in. Maybe like a teaspoon, or so. The first ones I made started to burst when I soaked them in water. I had to open them up and remove most of the activated crystals. I resewed them after they shrank back down. I made some with leftover princess fabric and also some in animal prints. I do find them cooling, but they do heat up. One nice benefit is the water that drips off the ends and runs inside my shirt! DD8 loves to use hers.

Something else we now do is bring some of those micro-cloths (like you use for drying cars). Put a few of those in a Ziploc with some ice water and they are really refreshing. Once they lose their cool, just twirl them around alittle and they will be all cool again.

Some people also report taking a washcloth from their room (or bringing from home) and doing the same thing. I like the micro fabric cloths-they really absorb alot of water. And, if you have a stroller and get caught in rainstorm with covering it, they make great drying off cloths, just wring them out.

I might have one better for you!! Instead of buying a neck cooler, try using emergency ice packs that you buy in the first aid section of any Wal-mart, Target, KMart, etc.. I did this on my last trip and they are PERFECT. They weigh next to nothing, require no coolers/fridge/freezers to activate, and when they give out, simply toss them in the garbage. Plus, they dont get wet and slimy, and last anywhere from an hour to four hours, depending on the brand/quality. You cany buy the "cheap" brands for about .99 cents for 5.

Thanks for reminding me, we used them last year and they were great.
I went on ebay and order 12 for $15 with free shipping.
We bought from Walmart last year and I know we paid over $3 for each of them. They work really well; you just have to keep putting them in water because when they start to dry out they lose the ability to keep you cool.

How long do they last ?? This may be a good idea. I will have to look into making a few. Two for each of us, this way we will have some cooling in the room for when we come back for an afternoon break. However, I guess we really wouldn't need them in the evening hours. But who knows.

Thanks for sharing.

This is what I recommend to everyone who asks about heat. They are in the first aid section. And they are freezing when activated!!!!!!! We pop one and put it on our necks or wherever and then under our hats until the chill wears off.

Also----those first aid strips for cooling kids fevers are great. They're called Be Kool or cold ee or something like that. Also in the pharmacy section. Plop one onto your neck. They are much much much lighter than the wraps.

Last September, I bought the ones at Wal-mart ($3.00+) each. We put them in ice cold water and then the freezer. At first, we were like wow these are terrific. Then, we were like what is that on the back of your neck. Ewww! Slime! We never wore them past the first day. Plus, they take forever to dry out. They were still kind of wet and slimey the whole trip. I was afraid to pack them, so I trashed them. I wish they would work.

I just used mine last month when I was forced to pick up garbage on the side of the road for 4 miles. It was one of my children's activities great idea to fundraise. I'm just paying the money next time you will never believe the things I found. YUCKKKK!!!! But I digress.

I wanted to chime in again with mine are not slimy. Even when my DD7 soaks them in water longer than the instructions say too. Hers are much thicker and harder to bend than mine but still not slimy. They do take forever to dry (about three weeks). I bought mine from Tilley Endurables online.
