Will we have a problem having my daughters nebulizer machine as a carry on?? We are frying Airtran.:confused3

TSA will not give you a problem with this.

It also shouldn't be counted as your carry-on. You still get to bring a bag in addition to a medical machine. We just got back from WDW and traveled with a CPAP and a nebulizer, plus all 4 of us had a carry-on bag.

The TSA may swab the machine (for what I don't know... I didn't ask). But they did test our machines 2 years ago.

Other than security issues, carry-on items are not TSA's concern. However, most, if not all airlines allow medical devices (short of oxygen tanks) to be carried on a plane and not counted as a carry on item. You should consult Airtran's policy for carry on luggage on their website to be sure.

We fly with a neb and a lot of meds. As pp have said the you will have no trouble with the TSA, just be sure that you tell them at the front of the line that you have a medical device and any medications that you need to declair ( this makes it go a little smoothe). You will have to take it out so be sure it is in a easy to reach place. In order for medical items to not count toward your carry on allowance they must be in a bag alone. You could carry your neb, the meds for it and any other RX or OTC meds that you need and it will all be medical, but if you out a book or other non medical items then it will count.

All airlines do this (for flights to/from/within the U.S.), because federal regulations require them to:

In implementing your carry-on baggage policies, you must not count assistive devices ... toward a limit on carry-on baggage.

Code of Federal Regulations, Title 14, Section 382.121(b).

My DW has a CPAP we take with us. Like the above poster said it doesn't count as a carry on item. Apparently with a CPAP they swab it because it has all the things you would need to create a bomb with a timer device. My DS and I go into a seperate security line, get through then wait for her at the security exit. Seems to work at little more efficently for us. As the DS is only 6 and waiting around is not a strong point of his:)

You may want to question your doctor about the possiblity of using a "spacer" with a standard inhaler.

Our pulm. specialist actually prefers the inhaler w/ spacer for our children over the nebulizer (we use a combo of the two). But it may make it easier for travel for you. No need to run back to a hotel room to use electric nebulizer.

I just want to add that if you are at one of Disney's parks and you think you may need your machine you can take it with you, drop it off at the first aid station ( there is i=one in each park) and when you need it they will provide you with a private room or curtained area to use your machine. Just be sure to pick it up on your way out of the park.

sadly this was one of my questions too...I am so glad that we can carry it on and not count it as a carry on...one down side DH and I will look like pack Mules! LOL
