We will have to take a nebulizer for the first time. I plan on bringing it in a small backpack. Is there anything I need to be aware of with airport security? Would this count as a carry on?

Put your nebulizer in a Baggie, and use a separate Baggie for your tubes, meds and mouthpiece. If the airport security screener needs to swab your nebulizer for explosive residue, there are a few steps you should have them take before they remove the nebulizer from the Baggie:
- clean the table they will use
- put on clean gloves
- use a fresh swab from the box.

We have traveled several times through security with our nebulizer and never had a problem. I kept it in the box it came in and put it in my carry-on. Ours didn't require its own carry-on but I have a pretty large carry-on. When I would get to security I would tell them that I had a nebulizer and they just waved it along. I think many people travel with them. Definitely don't pack it in your checked luggage. I was tickled pink when my boys "graduated" to their inhalers. It made for a lot of extra room in my carry-on.
