Nearly $1000 in FREE FOOD?! Thank you DDP! Updated 1/15!!

Ladies and gents, if you know me at all, or you know anything about the quick service places in DHS, you know where we were headed for breakfast, Starring Rolls! Mom and Anne starting checking out the bagels and stuff at the doorway, but I told them to wait for the goodies that were coming up later, look at everything, then pick!

I think we all know that Anne went with a cinnamon roll again!

I clearly was in a food picture mood this morning, I just wanted to eat everything!

Mom had her eye on one of these:

Hungry yet?

After checking out all of our options, I nearly picked the chocolate cherry cupcake, but let’s be serious, there are better choices out there!

There wasn’t any seating left over in the Starring Rolls patio, but since the Hollywood Brown Derby wasn’t open yet there were people sitting on that patio so we grabbed a table in there!

I chose the Red Velvet Cheesecake Cupcake and a water, because let’s be serious, I wasn’t feeling great, so a cupcake for breakfast that had a bunch of dairy and sugar in it would be a WONDERFUL idea, right?

Sure looks like a great idea! It was super filling for breakfast, definitely just enough food for a meal, but I will tell you, it wasn’t the greatest choice, I should have opted for a banana or some fruit, but when there’s cupcakes, you eat them. I would definitely come to regret it later…eck…

Mom got the fruit tart, I did try a bite of it and it was great too, she also got some cappuccino or some fancy coffee, while Anne got a coffee and a cinnamon bun, naturally! She enjoyed hers as well and we took a nice little break while everyone else raced around us to attractions, it was actually nice! Lol.

Cost:
Red Velvet Cupcake: $4.19
Fruit Tart: $3.79
Cinnamon Bun: $2.99
Coffee: $2.29
Cappuccino: $3.39
Water: $3.50

Total Cost: $20.15
We Paid: $0.00

We did use all snack credits for this meal, which wasn’t really the greatest of ideas, as a lot of the stuff we got was under 3 dollars. I did attempt to explain that to Anne and Mom, saying that they’d probably want to save their snack credits for things that were a bit more expensive, but hey, it worked out in the end anyways.

I didn't like the red velvet cupcake myself. Live & Learn :)

Is the topping on the red velvet cupcake Heath (toffee) or nuts?

Sent from my iPhone using DISBoards

It's toffee and chocolate on the top!

Can't wait to see all the rest! Really enjoying your reviews so far.

Thank you!! Glad you're here!

Joining in, Katt! Loving the reviews. :thumbsup2

Thanks!! Yay, glad you're joining in on the fun!

I didn't like the red velvet cupcake myself. Live & Learn :)

Haha that's fair! I live for all things red velvet! I tried the butterfinger cupcake once and thought "NOPE" so I guess we each have our own things!

Our ADR time was getting closer and closer so we did actually start heading over in that direction. I don’t think Mom and Anne knew much about our dining plans for the week, even though they were included on the “schedule “ I made at the beginning of the week, baha. However, we pulled up to Sci Fi Drive In for lunch today!! I’m always hesitant about DHS food, but this was what I picked this year, I’d like to try Prime Time again, but Mom and I did that last time! We checked in quickly, and had some time to look over a menu before we were called in and seated in a real car! YAY!

I let Mom and Anne sit in the front of the car together while I caught up on some trip report notes in the middle seat, and eventually there was another couple who ended up in the back row of our car. We all liked the look of the place, thought it was cute, and a cute idea, but man was it ever DARK in there.

Eventually, our server made her way around for drink orders. Mom and Anne split a Corona, which seemed to be a complicated order for our server, like, one beer, two glasses please, thanks. I still wasn’t feeling great, at all, but this is one place I can get a Cherry Flavored coke, so I opted for that and a water.

Strike two of great decisions from Katt, I don’t drink pop regularly at all, ever, rarely juice even, I stick to my water, throw in a stomach ache and a cupcake for breakfast and pop seems like the best idea ever, right?

Eventually, our server made her way back to the table and took the orders for entrée and dessert right then, she didn’t seem to be in the greatest of moods, but oh well. Mom got the Salmon BLT “served on a crusty French Roll with Arugula, vine ripened tomatoes, bacon and chili chive aioli” with a cucumber salad on the side:

Anne got the Shrimp Pasta “whole grain penne pasta, sautéed shrimp with olive oil, garlic, basil and fresh tomatoes topped with parmesan.”

And keeping on track of my “I feel sick so I should order dumb things’ kick, I got the Famous All American Picnic Burger “flame broiled angus burger patty topped with a grilled hot dog, sauerkraut, and sautéed onion”

I know, I know, queen of DERP right here…BUT I COULDN’T NOT GET IT! IT WAS A HOT DOG, ON A HAMBURGER!! Seriously, Disney food….Verdict: it was good, not as good as I expected, but then again, I’m not a “burger in Disney” person, I’m also not used to the having to order how well done you want your hamburger. Like, maybe it would’ve tasted better if I had gotten it medium, but up in Canada we cook our burgers all the way so you don’t like, you know, get sick…I dunno…it’s a weird concept to me…it’s not a steak….

ANYWAYS, it was okay, probably would’ve been better had I been feeling better, I did enjoy the fries. I also ended up ordering a Vanilla Coke at some point because, that stuff’s the best. Mom liked her BLT, she said it was a nice lighter choice, and the cucumber salad was much better than Cosmic Rays where it had a weird dressing on it. Anne enjoyed her pasta, she said there was a lot of shrimp in it too, bonus!

The downside to eating at a drive in is that we seriously had no idea what any of the meals looked like until I took flash pictures of them…no joke… Dessert time came and Anne made the healthy choice of getting the Fruit Salad:

While Mom got the Out of this World Turtle Cheesecake “with heath bar, pecans, chocolate chips, caramel sauce, and whipped cream”

Sorry that photo’s not better, I was definitely taking these from the backseat, baha! I chose the Apple Crumble for my dessert:

This, and the Vanilla Coke, were the best part of the meal for me! I picked at it a little bit, definitely avoiding the ice cream, and attempting to scrape off most of the syrupy caramel, and just get apples, but it was actually pretty good. Mom really liked the cheese cake, and Anne was happy enough with her fruit. I usually would have liked fruit, but I can’t eat cantaloupe, and so many fruit salads are 90 percent cantaloupe that it sucks!

Our server EVENTUALLY came back with the cheque for us, Mom took the bill for tip and beer this time, and after she had filled it out, our server ended up taking the amount she had put in the “total” line as the “tip” in the machine…uhm…that’s NOT OKAY! Mom didn’t say anything so I’m assuming it was not a huge concern of hers…I’m guessing, I had ducked out to the bathroom sometime while they were settling the bill and finishing with dessert.

Cost:
$6.25 Corona

$2.20 Pop
$16.99 American Burger
$14.99 Salmon BLT
$23.99 Shrimp Pasta
$6.99 Cheesecake
$5.99 Fruit Salad
$7.99 Apple Crumble

Total Cost:$85.44
We Paid: $6.25 (plus tip)

Food 4/5
-I like the syrups to put in the pops
-Fries were good
-Mom and Anne enjoyed their meals
-I find there just isn’t much on the menu I’d actually want to eat. A few years ago we ate here and I asked meekly if I could just have a grilled cheese with a side salad...not on the menu at all, but they gave it to me, thank goodness!

Service 1/5
-That just happened
-She did not want to be there, much less dealing with people
-No enthusiasm, no smile, she seemed kinda rude towards us, took orders even when you might not be ready, it just wans’t pleasant
-Then the whole bill issue where she took the total as the tip is just NOT acceptable.

Ambiance 3/5
-It’s way too dark in there, I get that’s part of the themeing, but it was too dark
-Things playing on the screen looped around faster than Sonny Eclipse, it only keeps you occupied in there for so long
-Bathrooms shared by ABC Commissonary which wasn’t enough room for all the customers

Needless to say, I won’t be returning to Sci Fi any time soon, it just wasn’t the greatest experience at all, and it just wasn’t worth it. From now on I’ll either go back to the resort for lunch, or hop to Beaches and Cream/Epcot, because THAT is way worth it.

Just finding ya and subbing in. Can't wait or the rest....

Eeeek :scared: We are trying Sci fi for the first time in January, I hope we don't get your waitress! We always go to 50s and I just wanted to try something different for lunch. Hmmmm, hoping to have a better experience then you, I'm so sorry is was disappointing for you.

Loving your reports so far.

Hahah, I've done Sci Fi before and it wasn't nearly as bad, and I've heard some amazing reviews from others on the disboards, so I'm sure you'll be fine. I think it would have been better had I either made a healthier meal choice, or been in a better mood/not felt so sick, or both! Lol.

Glad you're enjoying!

Sorry to hear about your experience at SciFi!

It's one of our "must-dos" whenever we go. We've had good luck with service there, thankfully. I just hope that continues when we go next month!

Our server last year was incredible! He was very attentive! My dad actually wanted to try the onion rings as an app but no one else wanted to share with him. The server ended up bringing him a small plate of about 10 onion rings so he could at least try them. And he was also great with my allergies and special requests!

Yeesh - I'm sorry the service was so bad for y'all at Sci-Fi. We had some pretty bad service experiences this trip too. :(

The food looks pretty good though! :thumbsup2 I really want to try Sci-Fi one day, but we just can't seem to get past the Brown Derby.

Wow that shrimp pasta looks really good.

Anne did enjoy it!

Joining in!! Great updates so far!

(Do you work at the theatre with the piano bar attached?)

Hey katt789,
I will go back to read, but wanted to check in and tell you what a pretty picture that is of you on page 1. I don't understand your mother is 10?:confused3 How old is she really? I got that Anne is 80, and they both look wonderful!!
Back to reading.

Ahhaaha yes!! That is definitely where I work. Us bartenders usually go back and fourth from side to side but I like my quiet little bar lol!

Thank you! I've got all my audition make up on there lol! Haha, in pixie hollow/neverland, they don't like you getting older than twelve. So, once you hit twelve, you just add the two digits together to get how old you are! So Mom is actually sixty four!

Mom and Anne were starting to get little hungry around this point and in the heat, an Ice Cream seemed like a great idea, so we stopped at the Plaza Ice Cream Parlor at the end of Main Street, and believe it or not, this was the first time I’d been in here! Mom got a Mint Chocolate Chip one and Anne chose Cookies and Cream and they ate on their way out of the park. I chose not to get anything. I was JUST starting to feel better and thought that ice cream for a lactose intolerant girl would not be a good idea. I did try a bite of Mom’s though and it wasn’t quite minty enough for me, and she agreed.

Cost:
Ice Cream Double Scoop: $4.29 x2

Total cost: $8.58

I’m not going to score this one as it’s simply ice cream, and I don’t remember much, I didn’t even wait in the line with them so I have nothing to say bahah!

Mom, Anne and I took our time heading back to the resort, it had been a few hours more now, and since I was feeling better, I was actually hungry, so I decided to stop and grab a Kids Spaghetti and Meatball Meal! Yum!

Cost: $5.99

I thought it was pretty tasty, more than enough food for me at that moment! The meat wasn’t too greasy, and the noodles were cooked well and nice and fresh!

I do a lot of kids meals at Disney, thanks to the portions being smaller, and honestly, the cost being cheaper, baha! They're enough food for me, they're tasty, and in a lot of places, have the Mickey health check, which is an added bonus for me!

I was impressed by the meal, I do wish it had had another meatball, but I'm sure I could've asked and paid for more, but one was the right balance with the amount of pasta I wanted. It was cooked pretty much fresh for me which I was glad to see that late at night!

Food was our first destination, which is also an unheard of thing for me, but we were all hungry, and I had my sights on something delicious! PIZZAFARI! Mom and Anne looked at the menu and said that they’d rather have actual breakfast food, so after checking my menu times on my app, I sent them all the way back to Discovery Island to the little food cart they have there for some breakfast pastries while I jumped in line for some pizza!

I chose the Vegetarian Pizza with ceaser salad a chocolate mousse for dessert, and a coffee to drink. The pizza was super good as always, the mousse was super saucy on top, like, Nesquick syrupy and it was gross. The salad wasn’t too great either, but the pizza was the main point of that meal, and I never really like the salads they come with lol!

Mom had picked up a muffin while Anne had SURPRISE, gotten a cinnamon bun from the snack cart. It was nice to take the time to eat in Pizzafari, I absolutely love that restaurant, there’s so much cool stuff to look at!

Bats on the ceiling!

Cost:
Veggie Pizza & Salad: $9.69
Coffee: $2.29
Chocolate Mousse: $3.99
Pastries: $2.99 x 2

Total Cost: $18.96
We paid zero once again!

Food 4/5
-Pizza was great, which is what you go to Pizzafari for!
-Other food not so much, but hey, it’s all good

Ambiance 5/5
-Pizzafari has SO MUCH SPACE and so many murals and awesome cute stuff to look at, it’s gorgeous in there
-Also because there’s so much space you can have a room practically to yourselves!

Right as we got to the bus stop at the front of the park, the rain was definitely picking up, good thing we were headed inside for the evening! We weren’t on a bus to French Quarter though, we were headed to Fort Wilderness! Once off the bus to the resort, and a quick check on the map, the three of us jumped on the bus that would take us back to Pioneer Hall. I didn’t know where to get off, as it had been a while, and didn’t want to miss the stop, so I asked the driver halfway through the ride and he replied kinda snarkily that he’d let me know. We did manage to make it there in one piece though.

Once there we got in the check in line and then hung around the area, there was no place to take photos still set up, which irked me as I had the pp plus and the photo was covered in it. I also noticed that I wasn’t the only grumpy one around, it seemed like three quarters of the people in the area needed a nap, or a drink, maybe both. While we were checking in the woman in front of us was complaining that she had a bad knee and the stairs would take her a while, and that she “booked this back in AUGUST” uhm…cool story, one month ago, I made these reservations a good 6 months out….and that planning paid off when we were lead into our seats and we were ONE ROW AWAY FROM THE STAGE!! AMAZING SEATS! I was feeling better already! The salad and cornbread were on the table waiting for us when we got in!

And we each ordered a sangria to go with our meals for the night, many sangrias would be needed though! Lol.

The sangria was amazing, it wasn’t crazy sweet and juice like, like some sangrias, and not too heavy on the wine taste like others, it was seriously the most amazing balance and blend! The salad was delicious, the dressing was a little too strong in some parts, but that was all okay! Finally, the cornbread, which was still warm when we got to the table, was of course, so yummy, we devoured the whole thing and I honestly wish we could have gotten more, bahha. Seriously, the food here is amazing, and we hadn’t even gotten to the main course yet! The show made its way into the building as we were wrapping up with the appetizers and had gotten another round of sangria!

My Mom made some comment about how it was a “revue” and that it was a bunch of smaller, skit like things, and then it all kinda made sense to me on why Tanessa and I couldn’t for the life of us remember a PLOT for the show from last time. It wasn’t just the sangria, it was the fact that they were all smaller skits taking place in character…Bahaha!

The show starts with the cast all coming in from various places around the theater as they are “late” for their show as the stage coach broke down. It’s a 6 person cast split into pairs, the purple couple are mainly dancers, obviously also with vocal skills, while the yellow couple are the heavy singers, and the other two, Dolly and 6 Bits who aren’t a couple in the show, are the comedic relief of the team! I have a love for the purple couple, partially because last time the guy was SUPER attractive, and I also would kill to be Claire, like, considering vocal training just for that, bahaha. The guy from the yellow couple, pretty sure it’s Johnny, wasn’t too into the whole thing, not as enthusiastic and energetic as you’d usually expect from Disney entertainment, but once he got his solo singing in there, it was very clear why he was there! I also caught him like, eyeing me down pretty hardcore in the first number and was like “dude…I can see you…” #awkward . The show had a ton of energy in the first act, and despite the little bit of cheesiness, it was still great!

The first little bit of the show kinda wraps up as the servers start bringing out BUCKETS of fried chicken and ribs and the various side dishes to the tables. There’s smoky BBQ ribs, fried chicken, mashed potatos, beans, and corn nibblets.

There’s my plate, not the most attractive photo, that’s for sure, but oh MAN WAS IT DELICIOUS!! Like, for serious, some of the best food I’ve ever had. The ribs were smoked to perfection, not dry, not fatty, seriously perfect. Anne had the same problem as earlier in the week and thought they were too smoky for her, but I obviously loved them. She really did enjoy the fried chicken, which I personally found too greasy, but hey, we each loved something!

The greasey chicken did cause a problem during dinner too…I reached over to pick up my glass of sangria, but because my hands were so greasy, it slipped right out and ended up spilling everywhere! EMBARRASSING. Seriously. The server was quick enough to get it cleaned up, but not before Mom made a “she’s just drunk” joke, which was super uncalled for, and as someone who works in the industry, if someone says something like that, you usually aren’t allowed to serve them anymore. Needless to say, I got a little upset and Mom and she nicely poured half her sangria glass into mine, and then the server seemed to have not heard, or pretended not to, as she brought me another one anyways. Thank goodness!

As for the rest of the food, the mashed potatoes were super creamy, delicious and amazing, and the beans and corn were good, though not huge hits. During the dinner the cast came around and asked about anyone celebrating birthdays or anniversaries and I managed to catch one of them and point out Anne to her and this happened:

Super awesome!

The lights started to dim not long after that, and we had some more show and more food to conquer before the night would be over!
