Nearby restaurants and stores?

We have never been to DL, or California for that matter, and are seriously considering combining a 3 night trip to DL with a trip to Las Vegas and San Diego next June after DD9 gets out of school. I am seriously considering staying at one of the DL hotels because I'm not sure if we'll ever get back there again. I am wondering if there are restaurants like Red Lobster, Chilis, Olive Garden, etc. close by. Also wondering if there is a store close by where we could pick up snacks and sodas and maybe some cereal to have in the room. We will have a rental car, but is traffic in the area crazy?

Yes there are lots of stores very close by - there is a Target about a mile away on Harbor. There is also an Albertson's supermarket. Traffic to and from would be heavy at the peak times, but not anything to worry about. You don't have to get on the freeway or anything, it's just a city street.

Between DL and Target there are quite a few restaurants. There is a Red Robin (chain, similar to Chili's, hamburgers, good food, we eat at the one at home often), a Bucca di Beppo (smaller chain of italian restaurants, family style portions, really neat & different decor, fun for the kids). There is a Mimi's right across the street from DL, you can walk if you need a break from the park. Mimi's is one of my favorite chain restaurants. Near the Mimi's within walking distance is McDonalds, Denny's and House of Pancakes.

I'm sure one of the locals (I live in Northern Cal) can tell you about even more places, but these were the ones we went to on our last trip. There is also a San Diego thread to check out good stuff to do there plus a lot of the DISers on this board are from Vegas.

Combining a trip sounds like a great idea..you may want to check into the other things to do in Southern California (Beaches, maybe a studio tour, etc). There is a link at the top of the Disneyland page for other fun things to do. Since you may just get out here once, I would try to see and do as much as you can.

Hope this was helpful,
Susan

Disneyland is unlike WDW in that it is in the middle of the suburbs and with in a block or two you will find all sorts of fast food chains and restaurants. Directly across from Disneyland on Harbor Blvd is a new Mimi's Cafe. There is Millie's too. Both have decent food. There is also a McDonalds there too. Down Harbor to the south you will fin lots of stuff that is familiar.

daannzz is right. Everything you need is very close by. We had a car, but if you stayed at the DL hotels, I doubt you would need one.

We had a wonderful meal Tony Roma's. We love ribs though.
