Why doesn't Disboards have a cruise forum other than Disney and RC?
Why not just have one that is general for any other line besides those two?

Then no one would have to get mad about a cruise question asked on the Community Board, and no one on the Disney or RC cruise board would have to get mad about someone asking about a cruise line other than those?

What did I miss? I didn't see anyone who was mad about questions being asked here

This really should be posted over on the Cruise board.

Is there a non-DCL/non-RCCL cruise board? If OP posts this question on one of those boards members aren't going to like it.

ITA. As someone who reads the RCCL board a lot I always wonder why people ask questions about other cruiselines there.

This seems to indicate that people wouldn't like questions about NCL being asked on the RC or Disney cruise boards. And it seems like the majority think this isn't a good question for Community Board either. So wouldn't it make sense if there were a non-DCL/non-RCCL cruise board as a PP suggests?

Truthfully, I'm surprised there's a RCCL board here in the first place. A DCL forum makes sense, but I wouldn't think there would be much traffic for a board for other cruise lines here.

I don't think yet another board for other cruise lines is the answer. The point is a majority of the posters on the DIS are not here to post about cruise lines other than DCL (most frequently). The amount of internet traffic to answer the question here is MUCH LESS than on cruise critic.

If the OP wants to receive multiple answers to her question, this is not going to be the place no matter if another subforum is started or not.

No one here is being rude. Heck over on the DCL forum there are people that seem to "hate" other cruise lines so much I would go somewhere else for some other opinions.

I don’t think anyone thinks it was wrong to post the question here, it# the community board, ask whatever you want! I just think many thought it odd Thant the OP wanted quick information about a very specific topic, but didn’t want to ask it on a forum where she would get a much better response. I’ve seen many travel questions asked and answered here.

I find it funny that when people post sports questions, no one suggests they post on a sports message board. If someone asks about music or concerts, no one suggests they go to a music board or one for a specific band. But a cruise question and all of a sudden you have to go to a different message board? Plenty of people just don't respond to threads when they don't have experience with that topic. I don't get it.

And I'm one of the snarkiest responders on this board, so I usually have no problem with the snarky responses.
People are trying to be helpful. If someone asks a general enough question, someone here probably knows the answer or is willing to google it. If you're looking for specifics, sending them to another site IS a valid answer. I don't understand why someone would ask for a answer to a specific question (wasn't it about a single room on a single ship) and then get mad when people suggest another site has loads of information.

OMG -- do you people get commissions for pushing Cruise Critic. I've already stated on a previous thread that their new site set up is annoying and I find it almost impossible to find reviews for specific items since the change.

In addition, in the past I have found their reviews to be, for the most part, very critical for minimal and ridiculous reasons that would not normally bother me on a cruise. I find their site tiring at times.

For me, it was an easier fix to ask here from a site I am familiar with to people who may have personal experience and can talk to me about it rather than reading 1,000 reviews.

Uh huh, so how's that working out?

Sorry if it annoys you all, and you don't seem to understand it. But if you don't have an answer to my specific question, fine -- but please stop judging me for not wanting to use Cruise Critic or making it sound like I have attitude.

Do you realize in 12 posts, only one person has had the decency to answer my original inquiry. The rest are just questioning my posting :confused3

If the moderator wants to close this site, that's fine with me. I realize now that you're only allowed to ask specific topics in some cases. Thanks anyway.

You've got that all under control...

And one person had the EXPERIENCE to answer your inquiry. This is a commercial site run by a travel agency specializing in Disney travel.

AND the DECENT thing to do is direct someone to another, better source of information if they aren't able to answer a question.

This thread is hilarious. The OP said in the first post they tried CC yet pretty much everyone said try CC and now they don't get why that would frustrate the OP. Hilarious!

Personally I can't answer the question. We cruised NCL once and found them to be a mediocre cruise line at best.
It's the same thing all the time. People never think it's enough to answer the question. They need to offer unsolicited advice & then defend them doing so by saying this is how message boards are. IME, that is how this board is not all of them & it's usually the same people going OT. You will eventually get banned for constantly going OT on some of the other boards I visit. It would be fantastic, if you could actually ask a question here & only get replies answering that question. Unfortunately, there are a few people who are determined to not let that happen.

But on those sites, wouldn't you also be banned for re-posting nearly the same question multiple times due to lack of answers?

Nobody is suggesting "find"; it's clear how you feel about searching CC. The recommendation is to ask. Post. Whatever. on Cruise Critic, where you're astronomically more likely to find multiple people who've eaten at that restaurant. Even more likely than that, find someone who actually stayed in Cabin 10258, and can give you the definitive response as to the layout. I wouldn't trust an NFL preservationists any more than I'd trust a WDW reservationist, regarding exact room layout.
Didn't say the OP posted on CC, I said she posted here that she tried to find her answer there.
Well, no, she didn't say she tried to find her answer there (or anywhere else.) She said she doesn't like searching CC.

Because this is a Disney travel message board not a cruise travel board. Not that hard to figure out.
Disboards=Disney travel including DCL
CC=cruise travel

At first, the threads would probably be combined. If it happened often, you're probably be warned, but I never see people posting the same question several times. Posting on different boards, because you're not sure which boards is appropriate, is entirely different. The Mods would combined your threads on the correct board. Constantly taking threads off topic & offering unsolicited advice rather than answering the question asked, would definitely get you a time out or ban though.

The OP already said they were moving on, due to the unsolicited advice that they specifically asked people not to suggest. How much more clear could the OP have been? She/he specifically asked people not to suggest they go to CC, yet that doesn't stop member after member telling them they're wrong for feeling that way & they need to go to CC anyway. The OP leaving the thread is no surprise. The same members continue to take over every thread & often run the OP off. Believe or not, most people have no interest in the unsolicited opinions some here are determined to offer. It's obvious a select few think they have it all figured out & we all need their unsolicited advice. We don't all put their opinion in such high esteem or want their advice. If people wanted that advice, that would have been the question they asked.

PS: Those who defend this behavior, have proven to be part of the problem. Why is it so difficult to just answer the question? If people would stick to the question asked, this would be a much friendlier board that everyone could enjoy.

So it would be better if the thread stays empty until one person posted a response to the OP (because they're the only one who knew the answer) vs telling the OP where they could go to find the answer (in this case, a whole heck of a lot quicker than waiting for the one person on Dis who knew the answer)? That makes no sense to me. When people answered "Go to cruisecritic" it was because they wanted to help the OP get the answers they wanted. It was really the best answer. If someone comes on and asks "do I have cancer? Don't tell me to go to the doctor because I don't like doctors", how should people answer? If OP would have asked a DCL question, they would have been directed to the DCL board. No one was rude, condescending, or insulting. They were trying to help. And the OP got upset at that.

I frequent a small number of message boards on different subjects. They ALL have threads that go off topic.
