I just booked us on a N. Europe trip for next summer. Does anyone know if there is a discussion board for NCL? Also do people do things like Fish Extenders on non-DCL?

Try Cruise Critic. But I warn you...they take "critic" seriously.

Too true!

In six non-Disney cruises, I have never seen anything like a fish extender event going on and rarely even see decorated doors like they do on Disney

I've been reading on the Cruise Critic NCL forum. While I've found it to be very helpful, I'll warn you there are some cranky folks on there.

Very true. I love reading and doing research there but sometimes I get
scared and run back over here. They have a lot of well informed people
I have gotten great tips from. BUT i noticed some could be very critical of
the cruise line. (you think people get bad here)

And I have found you have to be so careful about the rating. It may say only 59% would sail, but when you read some of the reviews the criticisms are so picky and miniscule -- things that seem to have really upset them but not things that would ever keep me from considering a cruise.

I think, in general, the average CC forums poster tends to skew older than the average Disboards poster. They always like to compare everything to "golden days" of cruising. A lot of people there also love to answer people's questions by linking to another thread about the same topic - which i find annoying. If you're not going to directly answer the question, don't reply at all. The one positive over there is they are, for the most part, more objective. Here, people's fandom and love for all things Disney sometimes clouds their judgement.

Which cruise are you doing? We're on the Jade July 1st. The roll calls on Cruise Critic are a good place to go. It's still a bit early for them to really get going though. I haven't been on any other line that does Fish Extenders etc. Some people do decorate their doors but not a lot.

We will be on the Breakaway ( I have to look at the date again, lol).
Thanks, I want to start researching excursions, and I figure between the opinions here and maybe on CC it will help with some decision making.
We're going in and out of Berlin (or a couple of hours away). So we are all excited to go someplace we've never been before.

Check out the Ports of Call on Cruise Critic. You should find a lot of helpful info there. Trip Advisor is another good source for info - including tour recommendations. When we did our Baltic Cruise last year we had a great group in our Roll Call and did excursions together. For our Jade cruise I've pretty much mapped out what we'll be doing (just not booked yet). We're going in and out of Hamburg and are very excited as well! Have fun planning.

I've posted on cruise critic for years. There's a lot of very experienced cruisers over there. Many of them cruise several times a year. Not too many people can afford to that on DCL. That's the biggest difference I notice. Every cruise line has their fanboys, but I think overall they're more objective. There are some neutral boards family cruising, singles cruising, ports of call etc. Its a very informative board especially if your planning on cruising In a different continent. There's people on there that have done it all, and can answer just about any question.

I've never seen a negative DCl review on here. I think you would get attacked for writing it.

I have seen people attacked for negative reviews of RCCL on Cruise Critic before. Bashing negative reviews is not exclusive to this board.

I've read a few. I remember someone saying they have been disappointed after a DCL cruise and creating a thread to explain what went wrong. (Can remember the title). I think it was someone who cruised with other cruise lines first.

There is an active Breakaway/Gem Fan group on Face Book. They are mostly New York/New England area people and discussions center on the east coast itineraries that the Breakaway currently does. It is a very friendly group, doesn't tolerate anything mean-spirited. I was on the Breakaway last October - it is a very big ship with some fun activities and shows. There is a "waterfront" deck area that is a fantastic place to relax.

I said I've NEVER seen a negative review on this board I never said anything was exclusive to this board. I'm well aware of what goes on over at cc.

We are doing the Breakaway as well August 2018, but the itinerary out of Copenhagen! I've also joined CC to see if I can get some insight.

We're doing this cruise also. I haven't researched at all. I never do ship excursions, but with the 50 dollar per port credit I might make an exception.
