NCL banning door decorations...

Oh that's too bad, I like them on my door, makes it easier to find.
I usually put one or two, I don't like the door covered in them.

Sounds like they are framing it as a "safety issue". Which... sure. Seems a little flimsy to me but people aren't going to argue that line of reasoning while on board.

Perusing the CC thread it does sound like people use items other than magnets to pin stuff on the door. If that's the case I sort of understand but it seems a bit much to have the fun police confiscate everything.

I saw that thread. Apparently NCL did the same thing in the past. But failed to enforce it. Maybe now they will? Or not, and it'll all be moot again.

WOW really, you wouldn't sail on a cruise line because of this? NCL is not my favorite line in general for other reasons. Personally i can see their point of view. People not using magnets and using tape which ruins the finish on doors. People stealing them off doors and then those guests who had them stolen complaining to staff on the ship or putting in a complaint about it. Takes a lot of effort and man power to deal with this and I am sure other things associated with door decorations that I am not thinking of now. Probably easier to just say not allowed.

Well...Disney did ban those over the door organizers because of "damage" and it sounds like passengers were putting up more than just magnets so I can understand. That would never be a reason for me not to sail with them...I just don't like a lot of things about NCL so they wouldn't be a consideration for me anyway.

They are only a consideration - in fact a done deal - for Hawaii for me because they are there year-round and go to all the major islands. No other line even has cruises to Hawaii when I as a teacher can go. So... The ship will just be homebase for that week - and then I will have 3 or 4 amazing days at Aulani afterwards.

Reviews about the Pride have changed frequently over the years so I'll be curious to see what you think. I do wish more lines would sail around the islands though! I don't want to spend a week or two ON the islands so the Pride would be perfect. When do you go? ETA: 1 year, 11 months, and 1 day. Just saw it. :-)

Yeah - I’m doing my 50th in the 50th. Haha!

We love decorating our door for each cruise, and have never had anything stolen from it or from our Fish Extender.

I said it was "yet another" reason I prefer to sail DCL rather than NCL, not the only reason. There are plenty of other reasons.

I have had magnets stole and so have friends of ours, different cruises. I didn't care, if someone wanted it that bad they are welcome to it but can see how others may be upset about it.

My gut feeling is we should enjoy Disney not caring what people do to their doors and walls as long as it lasts. As I have a feeling this will not last. I see on a different cruise forum where people post what they decorate how crazy some doors can get. some dont get the "less is more" theme. ... Now I know everyone has different tastes but I only have about 8 mickey head magnets. Some doors you cannot see the door anymore AND the artwork extends to hallways walls, Especially if they have 2 ajoining rooms.

Many buildings have it against code to have anything on doors or walls, or limite the percentage covered. My friend is a teacher and cannot decorate her door. At some point DCL will intervene.. It's no longer hanging a few magnets here and there, but an all out competition who has the best door, which often mean who has the most. I can also see cleaning staff having an issue.
so many times a door opens and that wind blasts and there go the magnets... or carts bumping or luggage knocking magnets off.

Agreed. And I am pretty sure that many doors I saw on the Dream in July were NOT using magnets. Especially the more elaborate ones.

On one cruise we had stuff stolen from our FEs. I know because we didn't join an official FE group - I brought everything myself. I never keep a list of who gave us things for our FE so I really don't know if there have been other times where things were stolen.
