The news is reporting that NBC"s David Bloom from the Today Show who is in Iraq covering the war, has died. I couldn't believe it, he's on everyday. They said the cause is a pulminary embolism (sp?). Has anyone else heard more on this? I was so surprised and sad. His children are so young I feel terrible for them and his wife.

"A native of Edina, Minn., Bloom is survived by his wife, Melanie, and three daughters, 9-year-old twins Nicole and Christine, and three-year-old Ava."

How sad. I will always remember that blue vest or whatever that was that he had on when he was talking about the war.:(

His family will be in my thoughts.

I really liked watching his reports.

That is so sad. I watched him every Sunday on Weekend Today. How awful. I just saw him on the Nightly News on Friday and I remarked to my DH how awful he looked. But it was just that he had been in the desert without a shower for a while, not that he looked sick. I am in shock.

I was just watching the weekend Today show with Solidad, Matt and Katie. How very sad! My heart goes out to his family and friends.

Very, very sad. My prayers go out to his family.

Solidad was remarkable with reporting this first thing this morning. I'm sure it was a sad day for all involved at NBC including Matt and Katie BUT Solidad was his partner! She did honor him well -- I know it must of been hard for her!
:(

I have no words right now, so very sad indeed. David Bloom was one of my favorite reporters. May he rest in peace.

This has made me so sad also. I watched him on the weekends and have always liked him. So young...and his poor family. :(

This is exactly what my 89yo grandmother was hospitalized with about 2 months ago. I had never heard of it before and now, this is the 2nd person I have heard died from it. The doctor told us that it usually just kills a person and was surprised Nana lived. Blood clots in your lungs. He may have had some of the symptoms & because of the conditions he was living under maybe thought it was just because of what he was living at the time in Iraq. :( So, so sad...

I usually watch theToday show on Sundays, but I was out this morning.

I truly liked Dvaid bloom and I will miss him.

it must have been so hard for Soledad to do the story.

I feel so bad for his wife and kids. I know that if it was my DH, I'd forever be questioning myself about not fighting him more about putting himself into a war zone. If he was home, perhaps he would have been saved. What a terrible thing to have hang over your head.

I knew something horrible must have happened on Saturday morning. Katie and Matt don't go on TV on Weekend Today for just anything.

It really gives us a sense of what some of the service families are going through... and this guy isn't even related to us, yet it hits home so hard.

:( I am so sad. He was my favorite journalist:( I will miss his great reporting and his happy face:(
