NBA at Walt Disney World

I am from MA so obviously a Celtics fan - but I have never wanted a series to go a full 7 games before until last week! So bummed that Matisse is heading home!!
Same and same! Also from MA and rooting for the Celtics but am sad about seeing Matisse go home.

Yes SEC. Auburn specifically. Everthing is still a go with about 17,000 fans though for game 1 will be only students and suite holders.

You cannot really bubble college students. The are going to go to parties and bars. You'd think football players would know not to so they can have a season but college students are college students.

Yeah, you can bubble them if you can go back to the old pre-1996 rules that allowed athlete-only dorms, which the NCAA is thinking of allowing again just for this year. Once upon a time I worked for the LSU athletic department; back before the NCAA prohibition against athletic dorms. Back then it was common for players who were having issues to be confined to the dorm except for class attendance, and they actually attended some of their classes IN the athletes' dorm. There were guards and bed-checks back then, and no women allowed in the residence area of the building except during very few designated visiting hours. (It was a men's dorm, and only had space for the marquee sports' players -- football, basketball and baseball--, but it had its own dining hall attached, and athletes who did not live there still ate there for training table. The meals were legendary; WAY better food than any of the rest of us ate.)

The vast majority of SEC football players would accept pretty draconian rules if that is the only way to stay in the sights of NFL scouts. For most of those guys, football is a ticket to a different life, not only for themselves, but for their extended families, so they usually are willing to sacrifice quite a bit to continue to play. If there are controls in place to reinforce the perimeter, and extras to make it more comfortable, most of them would comply. (Complain, no doubt, but still toe the line.)

Now things are getting serious. Milwaukee Bucks are siting out Game 5 against Orlando to protest the shootig of Jacob Blake. Raptors and Celtics discussed last night doing the same thing. Will be iteresting to see how this plays out

I’m hearing that all games tonight to be part of the boycott. The local news here have been airing the Raptors having met with the Celtics last evening to discuss a boycott of game one in their playoff series since early this morning.

Social justice has been front & centre through the resumption of the season in the bubble.

Rockets and OKC have said they will not play either tonight. In addition based on Lebron’s tweet I expect the same from them.

This is gonna get very interesting, if only from a financial standpoint. I'm not sure this will qualify as an event that would cancel games, so the tv partners would need payment for the lack of coverage...and then Disney isn't gonna look to extend the bubble past the original drop dead date, so the time has to be made up if they eventually go ahead...and if they leave, there probably is a penalty to Disney for non-completion...

This has the possibility of getting messy just financially fast, let alone everything else about it...

Meetings are said to be happening later today to determine how to move forward.
The NBA is a very player friendly league so they will likely leave it up to them and I don't see how anything is going to change for them in the near term that is going to change their minds.

All games postponed and no forfeits...they probably had a clause for postponed games for Covid, and maybe it was vague enough to work here to keep the financial impacts at bay for the moment...

Ya, I just came across this article about the games being postponed. Doesn't that imply they might be made up? I was curious because of the openings of some of the resorts, or if this might push that back?

Tonights games certainly are not cancelled. If they play again they will resume where they left off. Due to constraints they may be playing back to back days instead of having breaks. A lot to figure out going forward.

Yeah sounds like some players are talking about wanting to go back to their communities to work on making a change which wouldn't be surprising since there was talk before hey entered the bubble if they should play so soon after Floyd.

We were all wondering if COVID would collapse the bubble but that may not be what collapses the bubble. Hard to know what is going to happen. There are going to be a lot of discussions tonight I'm sure.

Some are discussing canceling the playoffs...I think the owners might step in at that point b/c they'll take a financial bath on this, even more than they would have if it had never started...
