NBA at Walt Disney World

I found it on Facebook. I just copied and pasted.
Oh ok - I'll just keep an eye out for it then. Thanks.

I would love a multiple episode docuseries on the NBA in the Bubble. I would just love to see what the day-to-day for them will be like, multiple teams in the same location, the socializing, all of it. Fascinating.

(And that's with us being directly affected - we have a Yacht and Beach Club reservation for late August - actually have both, we made a backup reservation to try to ensure we'd have good options. Wah wah.)

It does sound like the NBA and Disney are doing all they can to make the experience as good as it can be for the players. It will never be the same as being at home but they are definitely doing everything they can.

TV deals must be expiring soon Lol

Current deal goes through 2024-25.

It was sort of a joke. I only say sort of because I didnt know when the deals actually expired.
Not that I know of but right now ESPN doesn't have a lot to show. Shoot ESPN2 right now is showing people playing a basketball video game.

Sports networks aren’t built for this type of situation. Turner (TNT) can just air movies or shows in place of the games that they’d normally broadcast. I haven’t checked out NBA TV, but I know MLB Network has played Bull Durham about 75 times since mid-march. Which I guess is about the same amount they usually do anyway

There is no question ESPN network of channels is hurting right now. ABC is better but in the fall there is not going to be a lot of scripted shows to air so having NBA finals for ABC in October would be huge.

Plus all the money that the NBA is going to have to pay disney to put all this on. Disney get payed for logding, and for rent for the basketball court, and money to film and produce the games, plus the games that are on ESPN/ABC they get the broadcast money from.

We’re supposed to be at the GF for 12 nights mid July in a Theme park view room. I’ll be very unhappy if they move us or try to. I hope Disney contacts us soon to let us know how we may be affected.

I would be so angry if I were you. I completely sympathize. If it's any consolation, this may be a hint that non-DVC resorts are going to remain closed for much longer than we are expecting. So, there is maybe a chance you would have been cancelled/moved anyway. I know that may not be much of a positive, but maybe it's a small relief.

Now, that said....if non-DVCs do open in the meantime, and GF/YC/GD remain closed....then Disney is going to have a lot of upheaval on their hands, and rightfully so.

The thing I am most miffed by is it just doesn't make sense to me to displace/cancel people who spent a LOT of money to stay at your flagship resort, specifically to have a certain location and a certain proximity to the Magic Kingdom.....to displace those people so that a group of other people, who don't NEED that specific location or proximity...it's just not good optics. Yes, the NBA players require a "certain level" of comfort. But, there are other places that they can stay.
