Navigators Verandah in Alaska?

Which do you recommend?

We loved our NV in Alaska this past August. In addition to all the benefits others have listed, I used the oval shape to frame some of the scenery.

Anyone have a problem with cigarette smoke on the balcony while sailing on deck 7 aft? I know the Wonder has a deck 9 forward smoking section.

I don't remember any. You will hear some conversation/exclamation of delight, though, as people will hang outside and look for wildlife.

[QUOTE="Shanti, post: 58394523, member: 566966"Did you experience much vibration being that far aft?

There are major vibration issues AFT on The Wonder. When she's at top speed be ready for the all night shakes. I'm a light sleeper and it was pretty terrible for 2 nights in particular where I got no sleep. We just got off last week and we wouldn't do AFT again. We had secret verandah 7620.

I didn't notice any for our Alaska cruise earlier this year. Then again, they take a pretty leisurely pace for the Inside Passage. I also didn't notice it a few years ago, for the Carribean. The seas were rough back, then. The only thing I did remember was that the vibration was really bad on the 2nd floor (OV room) during docking due to the thrusters.

So you were 2nd floor aft?

Good to know. Which deck were you on?

My apologies, I wasn't clear enough. I was on 7th floor NV (7122) this past September (post-refurb) for the Alaska Cruise. Did not notice any vibrations whatsoever. I was on the 2nd floor (2630) in 2014 (pre-refurb) for a Carribean cruise. Only noticed vibration during docking due to the thrusters (which was the bed rattling kind).

We were in room 6636 for our Alaska cruise. We brought binoculars. You will be glad you had them.

No cigarette smoke when I sailed on the Wonder Alaskan cruise with a NV. No vibrations when I was sleeping also.

We loved our Navigator's Verandah in Alaska. It can be cold and rainy in Tracy Arm and it was great to sit be out on the Verandah and see the views but still stay dry. The open deck offered a grander view that was spectacular, but it was nice to shift back to our cabin. The naturalist on board was broadcast on the in cabin TV, so we didn't miss a thing.

I liked spending early mornings on the verandah as well. Nothing like the fresh air to get you going in the morning without the pressure of feeling presentable.

Thanks so much, everyone. Given some of the recent issues with severe vibrations in several Wonder aft staterooms, I've decided to stick with our midship deck 2 oceanview. The navigators verandah was so tempting that I was willing to take the risk, but when I described it to my son & showed some pictures, he surprised me by saying that he'd be just as happy with an oceanview, so that reduced my incentive to pay an extra $1,600. I'll apply that toward another cruise, I suppose. We've only sailed inside before, so an oceanview cabin will be a nice step up, regardless.

I voted going for a navigator veranda, but only if you think you'll use it and paying the additional cost will not keep you up at night regretting spending the extra money. We have always reserved a veranda stateroom since the first time we gave one a try, because we do use it frequently.

I'm an early riser, like to walk the decks before the rest of the ship is awake and moving, make my way to the drink station and grab a coffee, go back to the stateroom, grab the Navigator go out on the veranda and plan the day while waiting for my wife to start moving.

We go back during the day to relax a little bit, get away from the crowds and watch the world slip by. Enjoy watching the scenery, seen plenty of sea birds, stingray, sea turtle, fish from ours. Wife will spend time out on the veranda reading. Love sea days watching the clouds, changes to the ocean, storms in the distance especially if there's lightning. And you won't get better scenery to watch than when you sail Alaska, we did this in 2016.

And it's a great place to hang out in the evening to unwind after a full day of activities.

We were in 8002, right under the smoking area. Worst room ever!!!

That being said, we did use the veranda a lot, so much scenery to see!

My mom will be in 6138 in August. She's got the room to herself so a 7A seemed ideal. I'm not too worried about vibrations in Alaska (generally not traveling that fast). We're across the hall in 6139 but plan on spending a lot of time on her verandah!
