Has anyone had issues with it? What works best to prevent it? I was thinking of picking up the wrist bands.
Thanks for your thoughts!

Some people experience motion sickness (sea sickness). Some people don't. Have you had any type of motion sickness in the past?

There are various products used for those who experience sea sickness. Dramimine, Bonine, MotionEze, green apples, ginger, sea bands, among them, as well as (by prescription) the scopolamine patch.

I'd suggest speaking to your personal physician as to what products (if any) you might require.

I always wear the bands as I worry about sea sickness I must admit that with all my cruises I never have gotten sick. Is it the bands???? Not sure but I always wear them anyways. I bring Bonine with me as well and have never used it. Sometimes it's just having it for peace of mind.

My two girls have problems with and so do I. Bands it is! I'll for sure ask my Dr to see her thoughts. Thank you both for the advice!

Not everyone who gets motion sickness gets sea sick. My mother, who gets really ill on small boats, had NO issues on the Magic at all. I get motion sick badly in cars and on any rides that spin and suffer from vertigo, and don't get sea sick on cruises at all. (Smaller boats, sometimes depending on the sea conditions.)

DH and I got really dizzy between PC and Nassau. We had to go to bed early the first night with Gravol (anti nausea), we took Gravol Ginger for the day and the original Gravol (makes you sleepy) at night and the rest of the trip went well.

My advice: bring everything you can. I've been on boats before and never had such a strong reaction before... I was shocked by how much I could feel movements.

The first night from PC, through the Florida Straits (?), is the worst on a normal Bahamas cruise. It's scary, that first night...what if it's like this the whole cruise? I can see that it's tempting to just medicate and stay medicated. I'm glad I had no medication with me, though, because I just pretended I was tipsy, went to bed early, and the next morning it was all fine. DH, DS, and I seem to be sea people, though; we don't sleep as well anywhere else as when on the ocean. (note: I don't feel that DS and I have been in "real" ocean, so who knows how we would feel on a transatlantic...DH, however, used to be on oil tankers to Alaska, and even the worst Bahamas/Caribbean rocking is like being rocked by a kindly mother to him)

DD and I are both very prone to motion sickness. We started daily dosing 24 hours before boarding (we used Bonine) and still had to leave dinner early the first night out of Port Canaveral to get some fresh air. We kept up with the daily dosing and did just fine for the rest of the trip. We had a great time on the trip... so much so that we're doing it again this November!! My advice would be to be prepared with multiple options for combating the motion sickness. It's totally worth it! :-)

We just sailed for the first time on the Dream 4 night. I agree with PP that we experienced the most motion on the first night sailing from PC towards Nassau. Never having cruised before and not liking to take medicines, all I brought with us were sea bands. My two oldest children and I were overwhelmed with all of the input from the first day and we felt the motion! We didn't make it to dinner the first night. Room service sent up green apples, saltines, and ginger ale. We ate that, went to bed early, and were much better in the morning. For my son, the sea bands helped. He and I also did better when we couldn't see the outside. However, my daughter did better to step out on the veranda every once in a while to see the motion and get fresh air. We all kept telling ourselves "yes, I feel motion because we're moving and it's ok" - sounds crazy but it helped. I think everyone is different in how they perceive motion. If you decide to take meds, try them at home first, because sometimes the side effects are worse than the original symptoms.

we each take a Bonine a day and a kids Dramimine for our daughter and never had one issue. I am not even sure if we need them but just in case!

My husband did. Bonine didn't work for him. Sea-bands worked a bit (personally, I'm pretty sure that's a placebo effect). He's got the prescribed patch this time, but hasn't tried it yet.

I grew up a sailor. Who knew I'd marry a land-lubber.

Interesting! I'll ask my Dr just in case it gets bad for any one of us!

My wife cannot do any type of motion simulators at the parks. She is prone to motion sickness in cars often. The day of our flight and thru the end of our cruise, she takes two Bonine pills. one early and one late day. She has not had any problems on any of our cruises. Last February we had a rocking ship for all 7 days and still no problems. Hope this helps you out.

I suffer from occasional vertigo and car sickness (cannot read or turn to look over my shoulder as a passenger). Yet, I had absolutely no problems on our Wonder Cruise. I did wear the wrist bands the entire first two days as a precaution. I packed OTC drugs I never opened, as well as ginger chews (which I ate only because they're so tasty). One night of our cruise even included large waves that made it impossible to walk a straight line & I rather enjoyed it :)

I'll pack the wrist bands next time but doubt I'll need to use them. I *think* I'm one of those who handles cruises well despite experiencing motion sickness off ship.

If you plan on using a OTC remedy you may want to research which ones don't cause drowsiness.

I get sea sick sometimes but not every cruise. I use the bands. If I take Dramimine or Bonine it makes it even worse. I have considered getting the patches but was scared that based on how I react to dramimine and bonine I would be stuck with that feeling with the patches too. With the bands I wear them and then I feel bad I nap. For whatever reason a nap helps recenter everything and I can make it through the rest of the day.

I've used the Scopace patch before and it has a side effect of giving you a dry mouth and it must put on 8 hours before plus it did make me feel tired. It did work, though.

I have said it on every cruise thread about motion sickness I will say it again.........

PEPPERMINT :) especially for the little tummies. The hard candies are easy to pack and will last for awhile if on a longer voyage.

i'll be a bearer of bad news. I just returned from my first ever 3 day cruise on the dream and it was a total nightmare! I was so sick, even with the prescription patch that I barely left my stateroom. heartbreaking! I paid so much money and was in absolute misery the entire time.

I had to leave Remy the first night before we even made it to the main course! I felt the ship move and move hard the second the engines started up. The only time I felt marginally ok was when we were docked at Nassau.

Cruising is unfortunately right out for me. :( I hope your experience isn't this bad.

Eek! I am so sorry! I am worried about the same. We are trying a 4 night cruise next month and I'm prepared for the worst and hoping for the best. But I know that there is a decent chance that at least one family member of 5 will be sick. There is just no way to know unless you try it so don't be too hard on your self. Now you know. That is so interesting I've never heard of the patch not working!

I'm glad I did not book a 7 night cruise. Plus, our cruise is in port every day and so I'm hoping that helps a little that we can get off the ship.
