I had been planning on taking out the natwest £75 insurance policy ever since the holiday was booked, and was looking forward to massive savings over the £400 Virgin wanted for car insurance.
Rang the number I had found through searching these boards, 0845 4589677, and told the female on the other end of the line that I wanted to buy the Natwest Gold card car rental insurance policy, "no problem " she said, "have you have paid for the car rental with your Natwest card?" Well says I, I paid for the balance of the holiday with my card, over £1400 and the car rental was 'free' as part of a Virgin holiday package"
That doesn't count she said, you must pay for the car rental with the natwest card. No matter how much I tried to explain to this obstinate, obstructive unpleasant woman that you can't pay for something that is 'free' and that the car was part of the package, costing over £1400, paid for on my natwest card, AND the natwest literature even uses a Virgin package as an example, she wouldn't budge and said you can't take the insurance out.
Then panic set in, was I looking at an additional £400 cost for Dollars own insurance?
I decided to make some phone calls to the Natwest and after several failed attempts at getting put through to someone who knew about the policy, was given a number of 02087633223 who transferred me to someone else who finally said, "no problem, as long as you've paid the balance of the holiday on your card, you qualify and I can set the policy up now"
Now thats what you call a feeling of relief.
I asked him for his direct number in case of any queries and to save the hassle of going through 10 different departments again, and he gave me 0845 4589677, which was the same number I had rung to get through to Mrs Obstructive !
Oh well, just goes to show perseverance pays off in the end.
