Does anyone have any tips for using natural peanut butter? I keep trying it and I like the taste. The problem is when I first open it I stir it a lot and it's so oily I have to practically drip it on my toast. Then I refrigerate as the container states. When I use it again it's so solid I can't spread it at all. Am I missing something?

I use natural almond butter and I store it upside down so the oil is not so much on the top when I open it.

I can't go back to JIF now that I'm hooked on natural PB. Here's one little trick I learned. Stir up the oil and PB then store upside down in the fridge. The oil will still seperate a little but will go to the "bottom" and you won't have concrete PB when you're close to finishing it off.

Thanks for the tip of storing it upside down:thumbsup2 I will definitely give this a try!

I use the upside down trick as well.

Also, Skippy makes a natural peanut butter that has the same consistency of regular PB, no oil at all.

The absolute best natural/organic peanut butter I have tried is Kirkland (by Costco). That stuff is yummmmmmy. I also store it upside-down in the fridge.

Oh, and another thing....Safeway makes an organic peanut butter that is simply gross. It has palm oil(!) in it and the taste/consistency is....((shudder)) just plain nasty :scared:. Look for peanut butter that has *just* peanuts in it.

agnes!

I learn something new everyday on the Dis! I've been using natural peanut butter for awhile and never knew the upside down trick!

I've never heard the upside down trick! That makes so much sense! I never realized how disgusting Jif is until I tried the natural peanut butter for a week. I thought it tasted funky at first, but I'm in love with it now!

When mine is really hard, I micro it for 30 seconds, stir it up, and its good to go.

Hmmm, that's strange, my health food store sells fresh ground and it's so chunky there is no excess oil in it. I actually add a little vegetable oil in to make it creamier. You might try different stores as their grind might be a different consistency and not so oily.

I love it! It's eaten so quickly, I do not store it in the refrigerator. It's always soft that way.

As for Skippy Natural, be aware it does contain Palm Oil, Sugar and Salt. The only difference that makes it "natural" is no hydrogenated oil. If you are watching your salt or sugar intake, this does contain them.

I bought the Skippy Natural PB last time because they didn't have any Skippy Reduced Fat at the store. It said "no stirring required", but it doesn't mention if it needs refrigeration like other naturals do. I have it in the cupboard right now.

If you are a fan or all natural peanut butter have you tried almond butter? The oil doesn't separate in the brand I get which is a Trader Joe's store brand. They have 4 varieties: raw crunchy, raw creamy, roasted crunchy, and roasted creamy. The Trader Joe's brand has no ingredients other than almonds so it is all natural.

Just a suggestion.

I really like almond butter, but it is FOUR times the price of PB at my health food store. I can;t afford having that expensive taste. :( Maybe I'll check out what Trader Joe's cost as they usually are less than other stores for the same quality. :)

I've never had almond butter, I'll have to give it a try. I usually buy Trader Joe's natural creamy unsalted PB.

I store mine on its side in the fridge -- that way it's much easier to mix. If you store it upside down, don't you end up with the opposite problem, i.e. having to draw the oil up into the peanut butter? If it's on its side it's already halfway mixed!
