Hi all,

Do you know any natural/organic food type grocery store near DL?
It looks like the nearest Whole Foods is in Tustin...
Or any good-size grocery store (I am pretty sure regular chain stores carry organic stuff too)

We will be staying at Hojo.
Do you know if there is a microwave we can use, somewhere in public area?
Our room is standard, which apparently does not have a microwave :-(

Thanks!!
Kay

Can you shop on-line and have it delivered to the hotel?
Some of the larger stores do this.
Good luck!

I usually shop at Ralphs when we visit DLR. It is close to HoJo (only 5miles) and does offer organics (which I buy). I don't know if they deliver but I prefer to do my own shopping so I haven't every used the grocery delivery offered from the other stores

From their website about organics:

We offer two store brands that include natural and/or organic items. Our Naturally Preferred brand is found in the Natural Foods Department, and all its items are either natural or organic.

And in the conventional grocery aisle, you can find a variety of Private Selection items that are organic.

From HoJo to Ralphs is 04.74 miles
Ralphs 1121 N Harbor Blvd
(714) 992-2591 Fullerton CA 92832

Oh, so is Ralph's a Kroger company? Naturally Preferred is what they sell at our Fred Meyers.

Vons is Safeway and they have their own O Organics line. I think Albertson's has their own line, too.

Safeway is Vons down there, and they deliver, but they do have a $50 minimum. For your first time delivery you can get free delivery, though. I believe the code is "delivery7" or just "deliveries". As Bumbershoot mentioned, they have their own brand of "O" organics that we've been pretty happy with.

It wasn't too hard for us to get to $50, I just ordered a couple of extra treats that came back home in the suitcase with me. Just my daughter and I went through a whole rack of bottled water-- the tap water is horrible there.

If HoJo is not too busy, and you ask nicely, they will put the groceries in your hotel room for you if it's delivered before you get there, or while you're in the parks. They did this for us, putting the milk, juice and yogurt in the fridge for us. (by the way, another thread mentioned this-- they turn the fridge off between guests to conserve energy, so if your fridge seems like it's not cold enough when you get there, it's just getting going-- it will cool down nicely by the next morning and keep stuff plenty chilly.)

I'm not sure about the central microwave, but you could call the front desk-- they might have one for use in their gift shop, which has a surprisingly complete little corner stuffed full of grocery items.

Yes Ralphs is a Kroger company. We have Kroger here and they have a very good selection of organic and healthy food.

That is the main reason I shop at Ralphs when we go to DLR. It is where I shopped when I lived in California and is very similar to the set up in our Kroger store. Plus I know the food selection is good as it's nearly all the same brands as my Kroger store.

Thank you all for great info!

I think we will go and shop, instead of having stuff delivered, just because I don't know what we are going to want, and I want to see and buy.

Ralphs down the street sounds great!

I did not know Hojo had a good grocery store on site.
What do they have?
I want to buy some veggies - like mini carrots, broccoli, cucumber and stuff, something I can just cut or/and boil (we have a little pot) and eat.
My kids love veggies!

I am going to call and ask Hojo about microwave situation.

Thanks again!!!!
Kay :flower3:

No, HoJo's has convenience food, mostly, although they do carry bread, milk, etc. Doesn't sound like you are really big on frozen burritos and the like. :thumbsup2

BTW, if you are ever in DCA and want to get some healthier lunch options, you might enjoy ducking into the Grand Californian Hotel entrance and trying their Whitewater Snacks. We really enjoyed their deli selections of fresh cut up fruits and veggies. It's quiet and nice there, too.

I love burritos, tho!
But I prefer fresh :-)
Oh SoCal must have tons of place that sell mean burritos...

I will probably drive to Ralphs while the kids and DH are taking an early afternoon break in room.
I am a energizer bunny - life is too short to take a nap!!! :yay:

By the way!
Microwave problem has solved.
After reading about the HoJo ent rate on DIS board, I called the hotel.
I not only got the ent rate (for 2 nights out of 4), but I also upgraded our room to the premium Disney view room, which I thought all gone!
So we are going to have a microwave in room :-)

Can't wait!!!

Kay

KayDox - you should keep calling and checking on the ent rate for the remainder of your stay. I was only able to get 2 of our 4 nights when I intially booked our reservation but called back a few times and was fortunate enough to get all 4 nights at the ent rate so keep trying!!!

My friend loves Baja Fresh burritos and she is really into healthy food. There is a Baja Fresh about 3.5 miles away from the HoJo at 209 Orangefair Mall, Bldg. 11 Fullerton, CA 92832 (714) 447-9772. She likes the veggie and cheese bare burrito...

Have a great trip!

Baja Fresh...zoiks! Have you ever looked at the calorie info there? Even that naked/bare thing is almost 600 calories. :scared: I've never been there (did some damage at similar place) but hubby has, and he had to stop going there (his co-workers were going every day and getting the burritos with a days' worth of calories in one) when he checked out the nutrition info. :upsidedow

Yes I know its packed with calories but on vacation I tend to splurge a bit! One of my favorite splurges is the frozen banana! Yumm...I can't wait for that!

I second that!

We eat pretty healthy food everyday so splurge food once in a while is a treat :-)

*Once in a while* is a key here - that is why I was trying to find a good grocery store, because we will be in SoCal for a week.
I don't think we can handle park food, restaurant food, etc. for one week straight.

By the way, the ad banner below right now is "Come eat good enchiladas here in Mexico!".
Are these banner people reading what we are talking about???
Man - I knew somebody was watching.... :rotfl2:
