We rented a car from National - returned it Sept. 3rd. The gal checked out the car & gave us our receipt. Today Oct. 7th we received a letter from National stating that they got a notice from their Recovery Department about a 'Loss Damage Report' :confused3 They said that we should notify or Insurance Company and/or credit card to report any loss to them!!!
We don't have a clue as to what they are talking about. We called the Damage Recovery number - but of course they are only open Mon. - Fri. from 9 to 4!!!!
We are wondering if anyone else has ever received a notice like this & what was the out come???!!!

Send them a letter asking them to send you the loss damage report itself. Nothing more, nothing less. Put "RSVP" in slightly larger print near the lower left corner but not too much below your signature level. Include a copy of their letter.

Send a (verbatim) copy of just your inquiry letter together with a copy of the letter National sent to you to your insurance company and to your credit card company just to notify them within any time limit that might apply. Nothing more, nothing less at this time.

I agree witht the last post; notify your insurance company about what you received. Your insurance company should act as your advocate and investigate what it is the car rental company is claiming.

Good luck

Does your receipt indicate any new damage?? Include that receipt with your letter to your insurance company.

Looks like we are going to have to go over the rental cars with a fine tooth upon checkout/in and make sure the paper work is correct before signing anything.

National is owned by Alamo and Alamo likes to push their insurance coverage.

I like to take digital pictures of the car, both picking up and dropping off.

Always always always take a complete set of photos of your car before you start the engine, and then as you're returning it. If there is any damage that the rental car company cannot account for, they're often going to attribute it to you.

Thanks for the replys ---

The receipt does not say anything about any damage -- just 'thank you' for renting from national etc.

We have pictures of the car with the grandchildren standing buy it - but nothing up close. We always check out the car for any 'dings' & there were
none.

Will see what happens today when "Grandpa" makes a few phone calls.

You know, I would not make any long distance phone calls I had to pay for myself or take out of my cell phone anytime minutes allowance.

It would be OK to hold off on any phone calls for the time being, until you get answers to the letters I suggested.
