Some of the things I've found from plugging any number of coupons, contract IDs and product rate codes into the National website:
- There are at least two different Emerald Club contract IDs. When I login as an Emerald Club member, it automatically enters 7232219 as my contract ID. However, if I manually enter the 5007125 EC contract ID, the rate is $20 lower for the one week time period I entered.
-
AAA and most of the frequent flyer programs end up with a rate only $5-10 less than the 5007125 code. Northwest is a rather glaring exception.
- Entering product rate code WWEB actually
raises the cost of the rental by $90. I think the default rate is a guaranteed lowest base rate, which is quite a bit lower than the WWEB rate. My advice is to skip the product rate code unless you get one of those last minute specials e-mails. And even then, enter your info both with and without the product rate code to see which one is lower.
- Don't forget that National is offering free enrollment in Emerald Club right now!
Yesterday, I managed to get an EA ressie for May 4-11 for $156.57 using the ND1833JJF coupon and the 5007125 contract ID. Today it had even dropped another $5, so keep looking for lower rates. I usually end up making and cancelling a lot of car rental reservations because I'm looking for the lowest rate.
