That is great. This is the lowest I've seen this year. Went in January for a week and the rates stayed high and just returned for a 2 week May trip and the rates still were high. I hope this trend continues as we need a rental car for FOUR more trips this year. Our next one is mid-July, so I'm watching this thread carefully. Lawgs, you still have a week to go, wonder how low it will go!!!

We're arriving July 17th - best I could do was EA and $35 coupon for a mid-size at $289.40. After reading this, I guess I'm trying too early? Priceline keeps coming back a no too. Guess I'll wait, but maybe book this as a back up?

Making a reservation costs NOTHING and you'll have the peace of mind that at least you have a car. If I find a better deal I always make the new reservation and then cancel the old one to be polite 9and I think some companies charge for no-shows?). Keep checking your rates. Like I said, I have had the rate drop the DAY we leave. It's worth spending the time checking, and getting a car for $100s cheaper than when I start looking at a car rental.

I apologize for all the questions - I'm a rental car rookie! We usually don't rent, just take a limo to the hotel, but we're adding some college visits for DD this time.

So... if I reserve the National car, and the price drops, do they automatically change it to the lower or do I need to go in, cancel and re-book?

You can try 6600422. This one always gives me a better price than 5007125. Not sure of the origin, but I've used it in the past.

That came out to $171. Same base rate as EC but without the extra discount. Thanks anyway!

I see the Walmart Contract ID # on rentalcodes.com but I do not see a coupon for Walmart. Which coupon did you use? We are looking for June 20-29. TIA...

The coupon I used is from the National website- $35 off a weekly rental. The walmart code is from mousesavers.
I got those rates several months ago and reserved. The midsize was so cheap, but the other sizes were not. Don't know if you could get them now, but hopefully the rates will go down in a few days.

You are not doing anything wrong. National and Alamo release their last minute rates on Tuesdays...so tomorrow they will release last minute rates for your dates and cars picked up prior to 6/23. As of today, last minute rates are only available for cars picked up prior to 6/16. Keep checking!!

I always check on Tue/Wed for any drops. (airlines too).
