National quote--$1800 per week!!

OK, so we finally hammered out our flights, hotel, etc. for our Feb 2006 trip. Granted, it's Pres Week, but they quoted me over $1800 for the week for a minivan . Are they insane?! I could probably rent a limo/driver for less than that.

I think I'll be calling florida tours again.

If you are staying onsite why not use DME? There are some grocery shopping services if you need groceries.

National is very much aimed at business travelers these days.

You may want to check out Dollar. I just got a quote for that week for $399 for a minivan.

They Quoted me some crazy price also. Like $900 for a week on a small car.
I allmost fell off my chair.

After a long pause... the guy asked if I had AAA or any private club or discount club membership??? I thought to myself... yes, but what good is $20 bucks from $900 going to do for me?

I spoke-up anyway... and am glad I did. After mentioning that I had Triple-A Car Club the weekly rate dropped to $187.00

I think they are just trying to fleece the business guys who are on the company expense account. But as soon as you let them know your a tourist on the family vacation... the rates magicly drop to what they should be

I recently had a quote from Hertz using my company CDP at $898 PER DAY for a compact. And no, you can't fleece this business traveller into paying that amount. I wouldn't do that to my company.

In my case it was a programming error on the website.

Check out orbitz.com, sidestep.com, etc to search for a better rate, and start from there. Then see if you can apply coupons or discount codes.

We're flying into Tampa in March. National actually had a decent price on a standard 7 passenger minivan, but for the 8 passenger minivan we need, their price for 2 weeks was like $1500. We got one from Alamo for $650.

I think they're trying to tell you something....

my guess is that all their minivans are already spoken for, but if you are willing to pay that rate, they'll buy another one to rent to you!
