I just reserved an intermediate through National for $245 for 15 days using the "Priceless" code and Entertainment coupon which I think is a pretty good deal. One question I have is, do they charge you for an additional driver? I have never rented from National before.

Unless you are an Emerald Club member and the additional driver falls into the free additional driver qualifications, then, yes, you will be charged for the additional driver.

You are only covered for an additional driver if you are using the EA code. If you use another code you still get to pick out any car on the EA, but an additional driver is extra. We asked about this on our first trip to the EA.

If you are an Emerald Club member, your spouse (and others defined by the terms of your EC membership) are covered as free drivers regardless of the code you use. You do have to make your reservation through the EC page, however.

EA is only for intermediate rentals.

Thanks for the info! I signed up for EA and now I'll see what I can get for a price. I already have a reservation, can I change it and add EA to it?

Not really, just make a new reservation using your EC. EA is the class of car you reserve, which is intermediate. EC is what you joined. There is a special page to log into to make an EC reservation.

Don't foget that you DO NOT have to use the Emerald Club Contract ID code that is associated with your membership. You can use any code that applies to you. The best codes out there are the Amex Code if you have an Amex Card (not sure of the #), Priceless code (6600330) or the Carlson Wagonlit Code (5760339). You can combine any contract ID with a coupon code for deeper discounts..... I always use the Carlson or Priceless code with a $20 of Entertainment book coupon... no questions asked.

Have fun.

I just joined EC yesterday and that is exactly what I did...I took out the EC code and used the priceless code & entertainment coupon and got a very good rate.

I just looked at your original post and you are using the priceless and ent. coupon. That is probably the best combination you will get. If you can't find a better rate, call National and ask them to add your Emerald Club membership to your ressie so you can use the EA.

Scott, I am down here now, National, using EA, with Priceless code and Entertainment coupon. I am paying $170, all taxes included, for 11 days. That combination is about as good as you can get. And check right up to the day you leave for better rates. I saved another $25 the night before I left. Enjoy.

I liked Hertz also, from a past rental here, but lowest rate was almost $300, AAA.

Hey Dan!

I just signed up for EC and reserved an intermediate on EA for our upcoming April trip..used Priceless code and $20 Ent. coupon. Rate is 133.73 for the week. Now, how often should I be checking for the price to drop and how soon? I noticed that alot of people renting in December were seeing their rates drop over the past month. Should I wait until it gets closer or still check weekly or so? Thanks! :wizard:

I am not Dan, but, I checked daily. Sometimes they change within minutes.

That was a great rate you got Dan! I'm down to $229 so far for 14 days. I'll keep checking though! :D

I checked, as said, probably daily. I would check this board here, as if anything is happening, DIS'ers are all over it like a cloud, best site around. If something was said here I would recheck national, as well as Hertz. I think my price dropped about 4 times from June to late Nov, my trip time. Each time it was because of a thread here.
