Ok, so I don't know my cars very well, but as I was playing around trying to get the best deal for our 10 day trip, I noticed that the Mid Size SUV rate was cheaper than the Intermediate Car rate. Plus when I saw a e-code for $25.00 off a SUV, I tried to apply it and it worked. So now I have 2 ressies, one for the mid size SUV for $199 and one for intermediate car for $237. We are a family of 4 -2 adults and 2 kids and we'll be bringing along our kids booster seats. Can anyone tell me why a mid-size SUV would be cheaper than intermediate car...what am I missing here? Thanks, Jo

Could you tell me what codes you used? That is cheaper than a car I have reserved for only 7 days. Thanks!

I think it has more to do with the price of gas maybe it's harder these days for them to get poeple to rent suv's, they use up more gas. it's just a thought.....

3kids4Diz - The code I used is the CAA/AAA code. Since we're not allowed to print these codes in the forum, I just sent you a private message with the details.

Snugglepeas - I was wondering if the cost of gas was the big factor here. Since I'm not familiar with SUVs, do you have any idea what % more gas costs would be with using a mid size SUV vs Mid size car?

Thanks, Jo

It's a supply and demand thing. Truly it is. They have already booked more of the other classes of cars. I can book a convertible using certain contract codes cheaper than I can book a compact car!

Yes, an SUV does use more gas, but how much will you really be driving? We have never burned more than 1/2 a tank of gasoline during a week long stay at WDW, and we drive everyday. On average a mid-size SUV will get 17 mpg, and I'm guessing a mid-size car will get 24-27 mpg. We own an SUV and a diesel truck, so I'm just guessing on the car.

Same deal with Alamo....we were able to book a mid-size SUV with a coupon and contract code for over $100 less than an intermediate/full size, which is what we usually book for a good price. And we booked the car about 5 1/2 mos. before our trip! Does that mean a ton of people have already booked other cars by then???!!!!

I've got the same SUV deal booked @ Alamo for June.

Call me cranky....I've never paid more than $150 for 7 - 9 days in Orlando (including Pres. Day!).

I really appreciate National's EA system. Not too thrilled w/prospect of standing in Alamo's check in either (last time took over an hour!!!).

Here's hoping they're trying squeeze higher rates early on & will drop them as the dates get closer (if they're stuck w/vehicles).

National mentions a Chevy Equinox "or similar" as their mid-size SUV choices. Any idea what other models fall into this category?

I got a Rendezvous a couple years ago, but my guess is that model falls into the next higher category. (Similar body style, but I think an RDV is bigger.)

Jo anne, would you mind pming me the code as well please? Is it for National? I have a CAA membership and right now have a 3 week ressie for a SUV (through National) for about $538 in TPA.
Thank you
Suzy V
