My favorite is the Chicago-style dog.

The relish needs to be the nuclear green kind whose glow is visible from outer space.

My favorite hot dog restaurant sign.

Enjoy your franks!!

My favorite was a 100% veal sausage that my local purveyor called "The country dog". Yeah I get that maybe veal is controversial but bockwurst has veal in it to. They did stop carrying it though. When I asked I was told it wasn't terribly popular.

ill 2nd the fact that Chicago is alone at the top in good hotdogs (however I would like to say to Chicago and NY both your pizzas suck)

The "bacon ranch dog" from "the hotdog man" - my favorite.

I loooooooove BBQ hotdogs. I eat them year round. Yes, I am outside bbqing when it's -20C..many people do.

My hotdog has ketchup and cheese whiz on it. If cheese whiz isn't available, a cheese slice will do just as well.

For the actual wiener I'm picky..it has to be the cheapest no name from our store LOL

Here's a typical cart selling bacon-wrapped hot dogs:

Definitely illegal in LA. And potentially dangerous.

Yeah - I kind of worry when I see one. At least the ones I've seen look more sturdy then ones assembled from a shopping cart. I doubt that cooking on a lightweight aluminum tray would meet any health codes. And a cheap burner looks like there's potential for it to explode. Some use propane tanks, but others just use those cheap Korean-made butane cartridges.

However, I had one and it was so good.

I used to go to USC games and literally the home made hot dog carts would be running around and around hiding from the cops. It was almost comical. But the sad thing is, those hot dogs were better than the cold ones and warm beer inside.

I grew up on Wienerschitzel.

Ahh yes. Der Wienerschnitzel. And that is one of the old drive through the middle A frames. It won't be on my list for best hot dog, but it's the biggest fast food hot dog place in the nation now.

Well, I've seen them often in Oakland on the pedestrian ramp between the Oakland Coliseum and the Coliseum BART station. When there's an event there's any number of unlicensed vendors selling anything from unlicensed T-shirts/caps to those bacon wrapped hot dogs. I have never seen one panic, ever. That ramp is always patrolled by Oakland PD and BART PD. However, once on the way to a Raiders game I was guilty of consuming a beer on the ramp, which is technically illegal, and one Oakland cop just motioned to me towards a trash can where I got the message and tossed my beer. I have however consumed a beer right next to one of the entrances where an Alameda County Sheriff deputy saw me use the edge of a trash can as a bottle opener.

So that was Exposition Park Police? I'm just wondering what they really have to do other than chase down illegal vendors.

On football saturdays, the lapd was there .

To me, condiments, especially a lot, hides the hot dog. I want a plump hot dog on a well formed, tender, bun, not a salad. Maybe a little mustard.
