National Hot Dog Day

Sonic had all beef chili cheese dogs for $1 yesterday. Guess who didn't have to cook! :yay:

Personally I prefer my dogs bbq'd as I think they taste better that way. Then top them with onions and ketchup or chilli and we're good to go.

Only a small portion of folks from my little corner of NW PA will understand exactly how good these dogs are...

U B Dogs in Chicago is our favorite. He caters to the working crowd. Only open until 4 and closed weekends.

Maybe a day late, but I guess the place I've been going to for decades is Top Dog in Berkeley, California. It's gone through locations that have come and go as well as at least one franchised location. However, the ones that remain are operated by the original owner. He's got libertarian leanings and the walls are covered with various libertarian writings.

Pinks seems to have a following around Los Angeles. I haven't been there, but I did see their location at the Unversal Studios Hollywood City Walk.

I guess there are the national fast food chains that have hot dogs like Sonic Drive-In and even Burger King.

Strangely enough, I think the biggest seller of hot dogs in the US is probably Costco.

Nothing beats the $1.50 hot dog combo at Costco. Keeps hubby and kids happy after grocery shopping.

I go way back to the pre-merger Costco/Price Club days. My parents had a membership at Price Club, and our local one was way out in some industrial area. They carried Vienna Beef hot dogs sold outside in the front. I think most Costcos had some sort of kosher hot dogs until 2010 when they switched to their house brand. I think it was Hebrew National before then and some other brand before that.

You don't need to show your membership card to buy at the Costco food court, so even an expired membership card would get you in. Sam's Club serves 1/4 lb Nathan's hot dogs with a 32 oz drink. I haven't had an active membership there in a few years, but I think I could get into one with my old card. And I know of a few Costcos that have their food courts outside so there's no membership check.

I once in awhile get a craving for a good 'ole dog with lots of relish, mustard and ketchup on it........but just once in awhile. :)
