National ER and food carry-on ?

OK I have read all about the Emerald Reserve but since I will be up at 4am and will have 2 children under 5 I figured it would be good to get some detailed info.

We are flying American (Eagle for the first leg) and arriving on a Sat at bout 1:00pm. I am using the Priceless Vacation code and an Ent. coupon for $20 off for a Minivan.

Do I bypass the counter? Just go straight out and pick up a car? Is everthing handled at the checkout spot?


Now for the carry on question. I was entertaining the thought of freezing a couple of things and taking for dinner (we will be staying at the VWL).

I have a couple of soft sided coolers, how many carry-ons can you have? Are there any rules when checking in if you have food with you?

I figure it will be better to carry it on with me rather than check it, is this correct?

One more question...Dh and I are traveling just the 2 of us in December, American again. If we just carry-on our bags what are the sizes. We will be flying out American Eagle if that makes any difference.

You can only have two carry ons. One personal item (purse/briefcase) and one item that fits the size requirements.
I would expect that it might be hand searched since fozen food can appear as a big block of something on the screeners machine.

Your reservation printout from National should tell you that you are allowed to bypass the counter and choose your vehicle from the designated row of vehicles reserved. The instructions for getting your vehicle is printed right under your confirmation number. If you selected Emerald Reserve when you made your reservation, then you bypass the counter.

As to carry ons, all that information is on the AA website.

Does it mean that I can pick any SUV? or any car in Emerald Reserve?
I assume I can only pick any SUV from the row of SUVs, right? because if I were to be able to pick any car from Emerald Reserve, it means that I can pick a mini van, or I may not even have a SUV

Go to the AA website for exact requirements for your carryons. AA is picky and some of those overheads aren't too big. Personally, I'd skip lugging around the coolers with two preschoolers in tow.

Emerald Reserve means you can bypass the counter and go to the aisle that is maked with the class of car/vehicle you have rented.
In your case there will be a row/aisle of vehicles with a sign that says "SUV". You can select any SUV on that aisle.
