I joined National's Emerald Club and reserved a minivan but I've got a couple of questions:

1. I used a contract ID and coupon ID I found online. How strict is National about checking? I know some people said they haven't had a problem and some have but just curious for more responses.

2. If they do demand the physical coupon or proof of contract, what are your options? Like can you say, "Well, alright, I don't want to pay full price for a minivan so I can get a full size instead?" I know this must be another "your mileage may vary" type scenario but again, I'd like to hear what people's experiences are. It doesn't say on the website anywhere that you have to bring the physical coupon with you; has anyone whined and won about that?

3. When you join the Emerald Club, you have to give them your driver's license and credit card numbers. There is also a caveat online that says that you have to have a "clean driving record" and something about no reckless driving convictions or more than 3 speeding tickets. :rolleyes1 Well... I've had one ticket but got went to court and got it changed to a reckless driving ticket which was a LOT cheaper and did not affect my insurance. So does National actually check?

4. My online reservation says "Status: Confirmed". Does this mean they've cleared all the above and the minivan is good to go?
 
Several people on this board have reported that you MUST turn in the coupon when leaving the rental garage -- or you will be charged more $$. They won't ask you for the coupon, but without it you will be charged more in the end checkin. If using the AMEX discount, (or any other cc discount) you must show an AMEX card.
 
I'm not sure what to tell you.

I always make sure that I have the coupon and present it to the counter agent or booth attendent (depending on wether I'm at MCO or SFD) so that I know that I'll get the coupon discount, however, last week I rented at MCO, handed the booth attendent my ressie and the coupon (and told her that the coupon was there) and she handed me back everything when she finished the checkout. I didn't notice that she returned the coupon until I was at the house.

When I returned the car, the entertainment book discount WAS on the receipt and I was charged just the amount that I booked.
 
You will have to supply the coupon or you will be charged the price without it.

Regarding driving record, I think you'll be fine.
 

This past May they asked for the coupon when we checked out of the parking lot.
