I have a reservation with National. I have joined the Emerald Club and have made a ressie for a midsize on the Emerald Aisle. I combined two codes and a coupon for a good price. I got the coupon via Mousesavers thru the Vaction Outlet link (for use by anyone). The print out of my reservation states that the level of service is "COUNTER". I read two conflicting accounts - one says that I can go directly to the EA and present the coupon after I select a car. The other says I need to go inside to the counter first. I do know that if you have a coupon and are NOT an Emerald Club member that you have to take the coupon to the counter if you made a Quick Rent ressie. Anyone have any experience with EA and coupons?

If it is an "upgrade" coupon, you need to go to the counter. If not, call National and have them change you to EA, assuming you made it through the member web site and selected EA as the option.
When you made the reservation did you go in via the EC members site? If not, cancel the reservation you have and rebook. Actually, my rate dropped again today, so, it might not be a bad idea to check them again.
Also what two codes did you manage to combine? I usually leave the product code alone and let them fill it in as it often results in a higher price. Try it both ways and see.

This past September I had a EA reservation with National that I made with an entertainment coupon. I went directly to Emerald Aisle and picked out my car. They never even asked for the coupon when drove out. I have another reservation for 1/1 and plan on going directly to the EA even though I have a coupon.

All coupons, except upgrades, are accepted at the check out kiosk.
They didn't take mine one time also, I reused it. :)
Upgrade coupons ie: from intermediate to standard, require some paperwork that the budding geniuses at the kiosk cannot do.
When using an upgrade coupon, you will always be bumped back to counter.
